  • @Puc I would have a hard time telling for sure vs. these images since they are new angles. If some were identical angles I might be able to compare images. I can't tell for sure but the back of 4 may be worse.

  • New Damage after quake the last days?
    by Puc 1/15/2012 8:34:40 PM

  • Those images are amazing & alarming - any idea of the date? I think they've been knocking out panels at the back of 4 - you can see more daylight through it on the TBS cam these days.
    by UKVal 1/15/2012 8:41:31 PM

  • @UKVal they must be somewhat old. The close up of 4 shows the upper corners of the side concrete wall frame still there. That was removed sometime in late 2011

    by lillymunster 1/15/2012 11:00:51 PM

  • @lillymunster, yes. Don't you think so? The one showing the angled support column of the stack seems a pretty sure measure of leaning, but that might just be for that portion of the upper section.
    by Ian 1/15/2012 11:05:52 PM

  • @Ian the back end of building 4 does seem to be pulled in more than it was. I think it has broken more. We did see a shift after a previous hard quake over the summer where the back caved in more. I was able to get 2 same angle shots of the back to compare that time.

  • silver fuel rod fragment visible in unit 3 spider hole video?
    nukepimp.blogspot.com
this looks quite different from the bent rod I saw in the spent fuel pool, it is very shiny silver. Anybody knows what a blown up spent fuel rod fragment is supposed to look like?
    by artnuke 1/15/2012 11:30:30 PM

  • @artnuke, that silver tube was debated at length on physicsforums.com and it's possibly being a fuel tube was pretty well refuted, imo. Unfortunately the defender of that view posted comments too critical of Tepco, and therefore the entire thread was removed. I'll post a photo analysis of it I posted to that forum.
    by Ian 1/15/2012 11:47:29 PM

  • iangoddard.com I think this shows features on one of the two silver tubes that leads me to believe they are not fuel tubes.

  • Just click on the link right below the image to see it properly, and it animates to show the features I'm referring to.

  • @lillymunster, I think that tipping-in corner is the NW corner. Good analysis!
    by Ian 1/15/2012 11:51:55 PM

  • Sorry, I meant NE corner.
    by Ian 1/15/2012 11:55:52 PM

  • @Ian yes that would be the NE corner. I went back and looked at old unit 4 images. Hard to tell if there is a major change due to photo angles. These images were likely taken before the new years quake so things could have changed.

  • Ex-SKF mentions that the stone may not have been the only culprit. There have been other instances of radioactive concrete because sewage ash was used in making concrete blocks or concrete. IIRC there was a condo in Hong Kong that had radioactive wall. There was a city in IIRC Wyoming (or Idaho) where scrap from a uranium mine ended up in sidewalks and other parts of town and became a big clean up hazard.
