The ongoing nuclear disaster in Fukushima has quashed once ambitious plans for the construction of new reactors in Japan. The government does, however, remain committed to promoting exports of nuclear reactors and technology as it sees huge potential in overseas markets. www.japantimes.co.jp

  • @Majj they need to get reactors built elsewhere as the Japanese wont have them and it needs to see it's fuel interests the stakes and holdings in fuel and mines that japan has must be high

  • Famed Aomori fishing port lives in shadow of new MOX fuel nuclear plant. OMA, Aomori -- This town at the top of Aomori Prefecture is known nationwide for its tuna, and indeed the first tuna fish auctioned at Tokyo's Tsukiji Market in 2012 was hauled in by Oma fishermen. There is, however, something else afoot here that has thus far escaped much attention: the building of a MOX fuel-based nuclear plant. mdn.mainichi.jp

  • Oh my. I notice the plastic bag on pipes has white string tied in spots. The big plastic boxes look like they are there to cover some sort of gauge so I think they are on purpose but at fist glance they look exactly like a big plastic kitchen storage container! :-)

When I glanced at the documents last night it seemed like the plastic bag job was on a reverse osmosis pipe but it said it was a waste pipe so it might be rad water or sludge? It really wasn't specific. Most of these leaks seem to be on the higher quality piping. Why all the connections are leaking? Lousy gaskets? No gaskets? Temp fluctuations?
    by lillymunster 1/29/2012 2:52:31 PM

  • @lillymunster , All; Good Morning. Obviously neatness is not a priority at TEMPCO. :)

  • @Shadow TEMPCO how appropriate. ;-)
    by lillymunster 1/29/2012 3:07:52 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus on new pipes? I am not sure if they are stainless or aluminum or something else?

They knew the plastic hose piping was leaking because the plastic was degrading due to elements. They do seem to be upgrading some of the piping slowly but everything seems to leak.

The workers seem frustrated. The contractors are bringing in more and more untrained people many can't even read.
    by lillymunster 1/29/2012 3:08:13 PM

  • @lillymunster One can only hope.
    by Shadow 1/29/2012 3:10:06 PM

  • @lillymunster the pipes are obviously ordinary zinc. no copper, no aluminium, no steel.
    by Edano 1/29/2012 3:11:11 PM

  • @Edano In the US I believe silver colored pipes are galvinized (zinc coating) and the red colored pipes are steel with iron oxide paint for corrosion protection.
    by Shadow 1/29/2012 3:19:32 PM

  • yeah could be steel.. searching for similar pics.
    by Edano 1/29/2012 3:20:19 PM

  • Some of the connections have that shiny milled look to them so I wondered if they were something improved over basic low grade plumbing pipe.
    by lillymunster 1/29/2012 3:20:59 PM

  • @Edano Actually probably iron, as steel is usully black.
    by Shadow 1/29/2012 3:21:14 PM

  • usually :(
    by Shadow 1/29/2012 3:21:48 PM

  • @lillymunster Which pics are looking at?
    by Shadow 1/29/2012 3:24:20 PM

  • @lillymunster Well, considering they'd be using the right materials, then it can only be lousy plumbing skills in a radioactive environment. It wouldn't be easy to properly set up piping systems when you're running against the radiometer clock.
by Pedro Jesus 1/29/2012 3:25:21 PM

  • the connections are made for high pressures.
