  • I was just reviewing TEPCOs Press Release, and a thought what a joke they are. Why don't they just do their press releases with the current day's info. Like we don't know an earthquake happened on March 11. 2012 and blah...blah...blah. And the pictures they release are just to keep everyone happy. They must post their info, sit back, and laugh at the responses they get from the internet world. Just my opinion here :)

  • Ostrich roundup continues in nuclear evacuation zone. Feb 07 Residents from the evacuation zone around the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant have returned to their homes to find out-of-control weeds, lingering disaster damage and even signs of theft. But a few startled evacuees have also discovered ostriches on the loose on their properties.

“I was scared to see one standing in front of my home,” said one person.

After the March 11 earthquake struck, 10 or so of the birds escaped from an ostrich ranch in Okuma, Fukushima Prefecture.

The agriculture ministry and other groups are now helping with an “ostrich capture operation” in the evacuation zone. On Jan. 12 and 13, they captured four of the birds, bringing the total number of ostriches rounded up since the end of last year to six.

The ostrich ranch’s boss, Toshiaki Tomizawa, 73, told The Asahi Shimbun that danger exists in the capture operations. ajw.asahi.com

  • Btw, the plummeting-libido story can't have a Fukushima connection because the survey was pre-Fuku. Seems the Huffington Post reported the same survey in Jan 2011 www.huffingtonpost.com and then reran it reworded on Feb 3 as if it was news www.huffingtonpost.com
    by Ian 2/7/2012 12:21:28 PM

  • @Ian, and what's annoying is that the rerun omits any dates that would inform you that it's not news.
    by Ian 2/7/2012 12:24:16 PM

  • @Ian I would keep after looking for studies on this. The animal data you found was clear there are issues.
    by lillymunster 2/7/2012 12:43:21 PM

  • Looking at TEPCO's testing results. They couldn't be more confusing. It looks like unit 1 had a detectible amount of xenon 135 but it is below recriticality. Unit 2 they say it is below detection but that they changed the document?
    by lillymunster 2/7/2012 12:45:00 PM

  • Temp has gone down Currently, the
temperature is approx. 69.6°C (as of 11 am on February 7). this is the 3pm report. Still not sure why they are delaying temp results www.tepco.co.jp

  • @lillymunster, true, that animal study was illuminating on a radiation effect I never knew about. Fukushima certainly can't help with Japan's libido and reproductive problems.

  • @lilly... I wonder how they established the RECRITICALITY STANDARD term and the units 1Bq/cm3
.... " On December 15 we conducted air sampling at the gas controlling system of
the Primary Containment Vessel of unit 2. As a result we confirmed that
at the exit of the gas controlling system of the Primary Containment
Vessel, the level of xe-135 detected was below detection limit (9.1 x
10-2Bq/cm3) and below the recriticality standard 1Bq/ cm3."
    by dean 2/7/2012 2:11:07 PM

  • I saw the term on a December 16 2011 tepco update
