  • rpv bottom head had its minimum on 2012/1/27 5:00 with 37.0°C. strong rise since then !

  • @Edano what could happen if it keeps rising
    by elainekirk 2/5/2012 5:15:42 PM

  • @Edano what about the various others trending up?
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 5:15:42 PM

  • the green temp has been rising from 23 to 31.6 now. it's the rpv drain pipe top, near the rpv bottom.

  • uuuuuhhhh. So it is confirmed to be working or failed? :-)
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 5:26:29 PM

  • @lillymunster that' the problem with google translator. it could mean both :)
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:27:18 PM

  • on the other hand, tepco has proven in the past that they are able to manipulate the temperatures quite easily by injecting more or less water. so i am optimistic.
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:29:34 PM

  • @Edano they have been increasing the injecting of water for days and the temp keeps going up.
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 5:30:20 PM

  • @lillymunster what had the best effects, was the core spray system. i'm not sure if it is still working and if it is being used right now.
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:34:46 PM

  • '【Unit 2】19:20 on February 3: To improve reliability of water injection to the reactors, the injection line connecting to the reactor injection pump on the hill was replaced with polyethylene pipes and we have been changing the route for reactor injection from feed water system to reactor core spray system in a stepwise manner. After completion of adjusting water flow amount as planned on February 2, tendency of temperature rise at the bottom of PCV was observed. Thus, we changed the injection amount into Unit 2 reactor through feed water system from 2.9 m3/h to 4.9 m3/h and changed that though reactor core spray system from 5.8 m3/h to 3.8 m3/h . As for the temperature rise, the temperature at the upper head of the bottom of PCV has risen to approx. 67.2 ℃ at the highest (as of 4 pm on February 4: reference), but currently, it is approx. 65.1℃*1 (as of 5 pm on February 4). The trend of the temperature seems to be going flat and we will monitor it continuously.' ex-skf.blogspot.com

  • @Edano in other words on 3rd they reduced the volume of water thru core spray
    by UKVal 2/5/2012 5:38:10 PM

  • @UKVal maybe it's the same in #2 ?
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:38:48 PM

  • @Edano that is #2
    by UKVal 2/5/2012 5:39:17 PM

  • @UKVal :( yep. :)
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:39:50 PM

  • so they reduced the core spray and consequently rpv temps rose. the question is: was the reduction accidentally or purposely and can they increase it again ?
    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:41:28 PM

  • @Edano :) Could it just be an pipe obstruction so that volume of water getting thru is less? (they often don't seem to have noticed leaks immediately)
    by UKVal 2/5/2012 5:41:56 PM

  • @Edano just a mo they explained
    by elainekirk 2/5/2012 5:42:00 PM

  • To improve reliability of water injection to the reactors, the injection
line connecting to the reactor injection pump on the hill was replaced
with polyethylene pipes and we have been changing the route for reactor
injection from feed water system to reactor core spray system in a
stepwise manner. After completion of adjusting water flow amount as
planned on February 2, tendency of temperature rise at the bottom of PCV
was observed. Thus, at 7:20 pm on February 3, we changed the injection
amount into Unit 2 reactor through feed water system from approx. 2.9 m3/h
to approx. 4.9 m3/h and changed that though reactor core spray system
from approx. 5.8 m3/h to approx. 3.8 m3/h (which means setting them at
those of before flow adjustment on February 1). As for the temperature
rise, the temperature at the upper head of the bottom of PCV has risen to
approx. 66.8 °C at the highest (as of 7 am on February 4), but currently,
it is approx. 64.8°C (as of 11 am on February 4). The trend of the
temperature rise seems to be steady and we will monitor it continuously. www.tepco.co.jp

  • @elainekirk So TEPCO isn't calling it a non-issue?
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 5:46:50 PM

  • 10a.m. Feb 5th
After that, we have observed the tendency of temperature at the upper
head of the bottom of PCV. Because we found the temperature has risen
again (approximate 66.1 °C at 11:00 pm on February 4), at 12:52 am on
February 5, we changed the water injection volume to Unit 2 reactor
through the feed water system from approx. 4.8 m3/h to approx. 5.8 m3/h
(the water injection through the reactor core spray system remains
approx. 3.8 m3/h). At this moment, the temperature indicates 67.4 °C (as
of 5:00 am on February 5). we will monitor it continuously.

    by Edano 2/5/2012 5:55:32 PM

  • @Edano guess there must be....

  • Does the feed water system hit the bottom of the RPV directly?
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 6:00:03 PM

  • @Edano , I believe that is exactly what this tells us. The feed water runs down the side of the rpv to the bottom, and interestingly the core sprayer water dripping through the center does not reach the bottom as well. There must be an obstruction where the core used to be located.
    by Peter 2/5/2012 6:00:06 PM

  • ....and the heat source must sit at the bottom.

  • Yomiuri cites 71.7 temperature www.yomiuri.co.jp
    by lillymunster 2/5/2012 6:00:51 PM

  • the tepco sources don't support that number as far as i can see.
    by Edano 2/5/2012 6:03:32 PM

  • There are some increases in the torus also maybe the feedwater leaks out more or core spray rate is inaccurate or running out of the RPV somewhere different than feedwater?
