@lilly... atomic lighthouses?...
by dean 2/9/2012 1:34:06 AM

@dean the Soviets had them all over and abandoned them when the Soviet Union fell. Now they are trying to locate them all because nobody has an accurate map.
englishrussia.comby lillymunster 2/9/2012 1:40:37 AM

@lilly.. what was nuclear about them?
by dean 2/9/2012 1:47:30 AM

@dean they had what they referred to as a reactor but they looked like the plutonium battery they used in space probes.
by lillymunster 2/9/2012 1:53:26 AM

@Ron and lilly.. I'm familiar with the RTG's, they typically use Pu238 as a
"heat source" which is placed strategically around dielectric metals and the heat produces a current which then in turn drives the lights and motors for the beacons..

If crops are not planted a field could be considered abandoned and not a priority for decontamination efforts by the govt.

ap1000.westinghousenuclear.com animation on AP1000 reactors... seems like no human intervention for accidents until 72 hours..plent of time to catch a salad before coming back to the crisis
by dean 2/9/2012 2:13:19 AM

@elainekirk poorly thought out policy. If a field isn't tilled or growing something the local govt. would consider it abandoned thus no need to decontaminate it. Hoping the media thwacks whomever wrote it. There is another effort to stop farmers from planting in certain areas because they know the crops would be over the new limit. I hope they get it all straightened out before spring.

@lillymunster sounds like gov playing to tepco's tune and saving some compensation

@elainekirk is that the place where they keep finding radiation on the beach? They have quite the grand plan to clean it up and turn it into something else? How badly contaminated is it?

@Pedro Jesus can you understand this I cannot decide if it is relevant
* In the Chapter 12 of Nuclear Reactor Facilities Security Regulation "The
Way of Ensuring Mid-term Security", as the treatments like "Operational
limitation" or "Measures required in case of not satisfying the
operational limitation" are determined, it is supposed the operator act
per the required measures if it fails to satisfy the operational
limitation.
This time, to implement maintenance works, we changed the
amount of water injection into Unit 2 (from 3:48 am on February 7 to
6:48 pm on February 8) by conducting a planned shift beyond the range of
operational limitation.www.tepco.co.jpby elainekirk 2/9/2012 11:20:20 AM
