I should change my user name to 'I'm_no_scientist_but'...just putting in my tuppence worth that over the past years I've noticed that really large earthquakes happen quite close to solstices and equinoxes. This one came close to the Spring Equinox on, iirc, the full moon which was a particularly pokey one being close to the earth. Eclipses also. I have zero scientific expertise, this is just a shared personal observation but the idea that it is the tides exerting pressure on the plate definitely chimes with what I have noticed. I do think as we are here watching quakes so closely it would be interesting to get the moon transits and look out for any eclipses too. I've a pretty good idea that 'powers that be' do have more idea than they let on that these things will happen but as none of it really helps to predict in some useful way where they will be or how strong they keep schtum.

@wtm How I figure out what time it is in japan is.. I am on the west coast.. time now is 2300 hrs minus 8 hrs is 1500 hrs.. Japan is a full day ahead so japan is 1500hrs 4/13/11

My theory may be panning out a little, notice that it does seem to pick up after high tides, but it lags a bit after the high tide before it picks up.

@wtm and @NHK - figuring out the time change, if it's up and running, I usually just go look at the Tepco webcam, since it has the timestamp on the bottom of it. Then I adjust the minutes.

@kaykodh haha I just look at any clock around me ^^. When I was in NY though, it was just add 1 hour (2 in winter time) and switch AM / PM.

@NHK Listener we saw that some areas sunk almost 1.5m after that big one. worst what could happen is if tha fukushima site also starts to move closer to the sea level

@trh It is like 10 meters or so above sea level.. If a quake that strong happens I think the world will have bigger problems to deal with.

@ifz No prob. Unit 3 bottom temps largest since 3/29. fukushimadatapage.com Core pressure decreasing.

And in unit2 and 3, bottom temp hire than nozzle temp (implying core is at the bottom?). Highest temps for unit 2 nozzle temp since 3/31.
