I just hope they drop the pretense and say "OK, now that we see these levels, this is an evacuation zone. Gather your stuff and start to leave."

Are they tailoring the zone to the contamination, or just circular? Circular it looks like. That's good, I guess, because Daiini is only 10 km south of Daiichi, and 30km puts Tokai right on the line, I think.

Excuse the sinister topic but I haven't seen any reports of honor suicides. Back in the 90s I facilitated a presentation workshop with some fast breeder "fuel cycle" engineers. They were working on MOX fuel fabrication and they were seriously bummed out because one of their bosses had taken a swan dive off the company HQ to take responsibility for the sodium leak and fire at the Monju Breeder. Their comments at the time were basically: it's never the top boss, it's always a nice guy, a division manager perhaps (but not director) or just a humble middle manager who cracks under -crushing- emotional strain. Anyway: sub-topic = Japan wants to breed plutonium & since the program has military undertones it will continue at all costs and at whatever expense.

High radiation levels in sea off Fukushima coast
The science ministry says radiation levels in seawater off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture are the highest since it began monitoring them about 3 weeks ago.
The ministry says the level of iodine-131 was 88.5 becquerels per liter in a sample taken on Monday in the sea about 30 kilometers east of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The figure is 2.2 times the government's upper limit for wastewater from nuclear facilities.
The level of cesium-137 was also the highest observed so far, but was below the limit.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says the iodine-131 level was 23 times the upper limit in a sample taken 15 kilometers from the plant.
This was the highest figure since TEPCO began taking samples 15 kilometers offshore on April 2nd.
Radiation levels are higher in the sea to the north of the crippled plant.
The government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency says radioactive substances seem to be flowing and diffusing northward.
The agency says predicting the course of the flow is difficult and it will step up monitoring in locations where high radiation levels have been detected. www3.nhk.or.jp

Nuclear-themed movies to be shown in Tokyo for Chernobyl anniversary
TOKYO, April 13, Kyodo

A theater in Tokyo's Nakano Ward will screen more than a dozen nuclear-themed movies later this month to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster which took place on April 26, 1986 in the former Soviet Union.

Officials at the theater said they had been planning to screen movies about atomic bombs in conjunction with a similar-themed exhibition scheduled for early April at the Meguro Museum of Art. But the plan was abandoned after the museum canceled the exhibition in the wake of the accident at the Fukushima nuclear plant saying it may spread excessive fear or possible misunderstanding about radiation, according to organizers. english.kyodonews.jp

My theory is that there is a lull and then increase in quakes in response to the low and high tides. The pressure of the amount of water on top of plates helps push them and increase the amount of quakes in that area.
