@wtm That one is in the area of the Pahranaqat Shear Zone - it runs east-west, and is pushing straight towards San Francisco.

@Nancy, saltwater might have hindered the abount of water that was getting into the reactor, or helped it build up the hydrogen levels, or blocked the venting, I think they said they vented before the 14th ?

@wtm Jo thought the RPV and containment held pressure until about the 20th and then secondary equaled to atmosphere according to the readings.

@Nancy, the PV and drywell have consistently been around outside air pressure for weeks now. The RPV has been running a negative pressure, and a TEPCO tech said that was because of the breach and the corium drop into the lower vessels. From all that I have seen and heard, I think that the Drywell foundation in #3 is cracked, and that is allowing massive core radiation out. Notice the water levels don't seem to come above -2250mm, and the rad levels seem to slowly been coming down in the drywell and PV areas. I think the water is slowly flushing the radiation out of the unit. But there still might be alot of rods that haven't melted yet ?

@wtm trying to determine a date for that change earlier. Photos and heat images made it look like only the RPV was still there and releasing steam after the explosion. But the pressure stats stayed high until the 20th, explosion was on the 14th.

@Maureen Burke The app will alert you with the conditions you set in the "notification settings" area. The list in my app appears in Japan time, but I live in Japan so I don't know if it will adjust it in other areas. I doubt it....

@Nancy, explosion could have happened in the PV and drywell, and the RPV was fine, then a meltdown happened, and the corium breached through the rod holders and seals on the bottom of the RPV into the PV and then since the PV was breached, into the drywell. Have to remember that the BWR reactor has holes through the bottom of the RPV with which the rods are moved up and down. Only thing not allowing the cooling water or anything else through that area is the rod seals. Those easily melt during a meltdown. A PWR reactor does not have rod holes in the bottom, it would actually have to melt the stell container to get through that RPV.

Dean or Anyone - early on a plant worker was interviewed (showed only the back of his head and his voice was obscured). He said he was at the SFP of R4 when the quake hit. He was talking about the water flying out, etc. He also mentioned it was undergoing repair at that time. That struck me as odd. What needs to be repaired at a SFP?

@MinneapolisGal They need to repair the cooling systems. Cooling systems at the SFPs are still not operational. That's why they have been spraying the pools with concrete pump trucks and fire fighter trucks.

@MinnGal, don't know if Dean is here ? It might be the seals on the side gates needed to be replaced. The SFP's have a small waterway between them and the reactor core area, there 2 sets of gates that close and air seals on them to keep the water in those areas. Those seals occasionally wear down, lose air pressure and have to be replaced. Just a thought at what normal maintenance would possibly be going on that wasn't critical.

@MinneapolisGal A lot of things need repair and maintenance, especially when they have radiation, parts get brittle, pumps wear out, etc.

@Wrshpr - It's interesting - I saw that on the Kyodo news website in the afternoon. When I checked back in the evening it was gone. I have not seen that anywhere else NHK, Youtube, etc. Makes you wonder.

@Radioguy, that would be a real killer, I would imagine that there would have been a very high amount of radiation there when they did that ? Can't get a robot in that area because of debris.

OK, I updated this grid of Reactors against Dates to include the latest NYT updates. I originally decided to use them because they are short and concise.
