So sorry, buddy, Firefox crash pulled me offline for a couple of hours...
Seems to be a Mozilla/scribblelive incompatibility via video hardware that sends Firefox 4.0 to its knees, arghh. Looks like it has to do with the periodic polling functionality implemented by scribblelive scripting on my client browser that makes the self-updating pages possible. I don't want to have to kill the browser linkage of Apple Quicktime 1.0 to find out. Sheez...

Tokyo Electric says it plans to continue pumping water at the current rate of 10 tons per hour for around 10 more days, and then add more pumps if things go well. The firm says it will transfer a total of 10,000 tons by mid-May.

But water around the Number 2 reactor is only part of the 67,500 tons of radioactive water that Tokyo Electric estimates to have accumulated at the plant.

The utility says radioactive water in the tunnel of the Number 3 reactor facility has been rising by several centimeters a day for the past week, and is soon likely to reach one-meter below ground level.

Tokyo Electric is also closely monitoring rising water levels in the turbine buildings of the Number 5 and 6 reactors. It says ground water could be seeping in.

@hank up here we can only receive satellite and I know of no way that you can block reception for bbc programmes are you saying that I can just say I don't watch bbc and not have to pay licence?

@elainekirk - If it's through satellite, I'm not sure. I'd call them up and ask them if you can remove the channels which require the license. I know that you don't have to pay a license if you don't watch over the airwaves.

@rob in sf I so remember those, then they moved on to vans, in those days they were so basic that the man would go knocking on doors playing call my bluff in an effort to pin down somebody without a licence as the van couldn't pin point to any great degree , the only value in the things was as a deterrent

Govt suspends shipment of Fukushima sand lances
The government has instructed Fukushima Prefecture to suspend shipments of a small fish caught off its coasts found to have radioactive contamination, and to warn people not to eat them. The restrictions announced on Wednesday are being applied to marine products for the first time, amid ongoing troubles at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The instruction follows a health ministry report that the fish called sand lance caught on Monday near Iwaki city, south of the plant, was found to contain 14,400 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive cesium. That's 29 times the safe limit.

Ministry testing also found 3,900 becquerels, or twice the limit, of radioactive iodine in the fish.
Excessive amounts of radioactive cesium were detected in sand lances caught in the same area on April the 7th and 13th.

The government says the fish are not on the market, as fishery cooperatives in Fukushima are not operating.

Japan's Health Ministry is also set to form a panel of experts to discuss ways to safeguard tap water from radioactive contamination. The move came after radioactive iodine at levels higher than national limits was detected temporarily in tap water in parts of Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures. The ministry yesterday held a meeting of advisers, including environment experts and water utility industry representatives, to discuss counter-measures. The panel is to start discussions next week and come up with a report on specific measures by around June. Meanwhile, the National Police Agency said that the total number of dead and missing in the March 11 twin disaster was 27,661. (Meanwhile?)

It seems to get worse when they re-report the facts...

Tokyo Electric Power Company says radioactive substances that leaked into the sea at the damaged Fukushima plant over six days from April 1st are estimated at 4,700 terabecquerels. This is 20,000 times more than the annual allowable limit at the complex.
The utility firm said that 520 tons of the high-level radioactive water is likely to have leaked into the sea during the period.

The estimated level of radiation in the water is roughly one 7,000th of what the power company puts as the total amount of radiation that has been released so far from the Number 2 reactor core and its spent fuel pool.

Levels of iodine 7.5 million times the safety limit were detected on April 2nd near the water intake of the Number 2 reactor.
