This accident had a crazy chain. Break one link and it doesn't happen.

@Nancy That's another thing we train to avoid. Flying is as much mental as physical. Attitude and awareness is as much or more important than just knowing how to fly.

I am trying to figure out, are 5 and 6 on lower land or higher land? I can't remember and don't seem to have a side view of the entire plant.

@Nancy That remids me. I need to get some maps stored.

@Jim Carver If you happen across a topo map on that let me know what you find out. Today's TEPCO nonsense is that groundwater is filling up 5 & 6. If they are lower it could be all this leaking radioactive runoff. If they are higher either TEPCO is making up stories again or they have one major water problem under all the buildings.

I hear that early containment dome design imperviousness to jumbo jets is WAY outdated, (ie: Indian Point near NYC), and getting the helm of a decent sized cargo-plane is not out of the realm of possibility.

I also hear there are AA missiles at Indian Point...

@Jim Carver The story I read on it today mentioned Toshiba having an investor back out. I cross checked it and TEPCO was the investor.

@Nancy Yeah, they were partners. And going to get funds from the Fed. It's toast..turns out we didn't need it. Wind has taken up the slack in five years. Tell me alternatives don't work--aren't enough!

Soils contaminated with radionuclides, particularly 137Cs and 90Sr, pose a long-term radiation hazard to human health through exposure via the foodchain and other pathways. Remediation of radionuclide-contaminated soils has become increasingly important. Removal of the contaminated surface soil (often up to 40 cm) or immobilization of radionuclides in soils by applying mineral and chemical amendments are physically difficult and not likely cost-effective in practicality. Reducing plant uptake of radionuclides, especially 137CS and 90Sr by competitive cations contained in chemical fertilizers has the general advantage in large scale, low-level contamination incidents on arable land, and has been widely practiced in central and Western Europe after the Chernobyl accident. Phytoextraction of radionuclides by specific plant species from contaminated sites has rapidly stimulated interest among industrialists as well as academics, and is considered to be a promising bio-remediation method. This paper examines the existing remediation approaches and discusses phytoextraction of radionuclides from contaminated soils in detail.

@Jim Carver We have so much untapped wind potential in South Dakota. Our state and Xcel energy won't let transmission lines be built. On the MN side of the border huge wind farms have gone up in the last 8 years. I noticed that, they said there isn't enough demand.

@Nancy Geez, short-sighted toads. They had a power outage here because wind was putting out too much and they weren't ready. They fixed that now.

@Jim Carver we can't grid tie for solar or wind here because Xcel holds so much sway over our state govt.
