@bo Yeah I think you are right, the most they have to fear is the unknown and I think that just happened tonight. They do desparately want to be in control, because that is where they are used to being and it seems like they attain it for a moment--and poof, slips away. This situation would be impossible for any government or organization and that's what makes them look like fools most of the time.

I think the politics in Japan is so convoluted for most Americans, it's just hard to understand. Looking at the seeming changes in the country in the last 70 years it's hard to imagine how they view themselves or reconcile themselves in a world where they might have been the top dogs to a one that is secondary to the US.

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501.TO) said Friday it found a glitch with one of the valves that helps pump cooling water into the No. 1 reactor of the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata prefecture, northern Japan.

The utility said it found the valve didn't close during a regular checkup late Thursday, so it had to be shut manually.

But the company said there had been no external leakage of radioactivity.
