    by dean 5/6/2011 2:29:22 AM

  • @fitter g'nite
    by bo 5/6/2011 2:29:31 AM

  • @fitter very much so! The SFP on 4 is already a fragile mess. They have been worried about the building structure but I didn't ask more about WHY they were worried about the building itself. I think now we know.
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:29:31 AM

  • It looks like the tippycam is trying to focus on something specific. And there's something glittering on the top oof 3. Probably a reflection...
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:29:38 AM

  • @marie rich top of #3 has been shiny for about an hour and a half.......
    by Angie 5/6/2011 2:30:43 AM

  • ok ok
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:31:09 AM

  • @Nancy One poster talked about it being the 'pin cushion effect', does that mean something like parallax error. I mean it really does look like it is , but...

  • 4 is leaning
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:32:56 AM

  • @Jim Carver If you were getting some sort of optical illusion the right tower would have some of it too or something somewhere else in the image. Or you would have two spots leaning in opposite directions.
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:33:09 AM

  • @Nancy I'm convinced.
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:33:14 AM

  • I really hope I end up being wrong.
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:33:38 AM

  • @Nancy Nice job. Very convincing to me.
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:33:49 AM

  • @marie rich I have been trying to work out what the hell it is on there for ages! lol
    by Angie 5/6/2011 2:33:55 AM

  • @fitter Charlotteville, Virginia had Iodine-131 go up 5-fold a couple days ago, Ashland, Kansas went up too... cesium did not go up, it went down in one of them... the iodine/cesium ratio has increased... increased new fission.
    by Bobby1 5/6/2011 2:34:10 AM

  • @Nancy You're better than those guys :)
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:34:12 AM

  • any ideas?
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:34:22 AM

  • @marie rich nope! maybe those shiny bits are metal/steel shining in the sun?? I really have no idea but I like the sound of the sun better than a fire any where on the plant at all! #4 had 2 spots before and #2 had one in the same place as last ime..........
    by Angie 5/6/2011 2:36:36 AM

  • De-lurking...@Nancy I agree, 4 leaning. And given the images from the video Dean posted, frankly I'm not surprised. Lots of fairly big quakes today. With H2O and 1 good size quake....big trouble.
    by LM 5/6/2011 2:36:51 AM

  • Is the reason why it's not noticeable in other views because of the angle? Oblique angle?
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:37:17 AM

  • @LM wasn't there a six tdy?
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:37:44 AM

  • @marie rich there was a 6.1 today
    by Angie 5/6/2011 2:38:53 AM

  • hmmm
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:39:12 AM

  • @Marie rich There was a 6.1 11 hours ago along with a few 5. And 4....
    by LM 5/6/2011 2:39:26 AM

  • @Jim Carver #4 wasn't leaning over before that I noticed. Either it did it slowly and just finally got noticable today or the EQ today moved something.
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:40:19 AM

  • Will be looking hard at the plant parameters tmw. Except, if there's a big change it will come out a day late
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:40:27 AM

  • @LM And hydralically supported foundation...
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:40:36 AM

  • time for my rest.. will return..
    by dean 5/6/2011 2:40:37 AM

  • bye, dean. latr
by marie rich 5/6/2011 2:41:23 AM

  • sy dean!
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:41:56 AM

  • @dean later!
    by bo 5/6/2011 2:42:34 AM

  • Bye Dean. Thanks for the post of the video footage. I hadn't seen it. Quite eye opening.
    by LM 5/6/2011 2:42:44 AM

  • @ll I don't think the a small series of tremors would matter normally. But in this case, with the water and explosions, helicopters dropping tons of water. Very possible.
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:44:16 AM

  • Taro Kono, the politician who blogged about the possible release on the 8th is the subject of a Wikileaked cable from the US State Dept. in which he is deeply critical of the Japanese nuclear industry and regulatory agencies. www.guardian.co.uk
    by bo 5/6/2011 2:46:31 AM

  • @Jim I think we're witnessing the limitations of hydraulics and other earthquake engineering. They really didn't plan for the worst case scenario.
    by LM 5/6/2011 2:46:49 AM

  • Regardinghe specific date of May 8, could this be when the SFP will boil dry if water supply is stopped due to danger of structural failure ?
    by WolfDK 5/6/2011 2:47:14 AM

  • I put together the photo and the post from Physics Forum together www.houseoffoust.com
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:47:19 AM

  • @LM Planning for the worst case scenario is expensive.
    by radioguy 5/6/2011 2:47:39 AM

  • @radioguy and when you know the costs of not planning will be born by public money, why plan?
    by bo 5/6/2011 2:48:22 AM

  • @WolfDK Or estimated failure date. One of the reporters I spoke with said that the techs were really worried about the structure on 4 and also the SFP there.
    by Nancy 5/6/2011 2:48:27 AM

  • @LM No they didn't and everything we've seen is within the parameters of what is historically possible and likely. If you can see past your nose that is.
by Jim Carver 5/6/2011 2:49:05 AM

  • @radioguy You bet. That's why they don't have any intention of doing it here.
    by LM 5/6/2011 2:49:53 AM

  • One thing is for sure if it drops it will not be pretty, nothing like we have ever seen before, lets hope it dont
