  • Their camera has great resolution at that distance when there's enough light. When you look at it like that, R 1 looks like it's just being framed, R2 looks finished, R3 has officially reached ruina status, and R4 is working its way from ramshackle to tumble-down. What a foursome!
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:37:47 PM

  • @Radioguy, notice the new tarp over the right hand side of #4
    by wtm 5/8/2011 9:39:17 PM

  • And you have to love R2, the little reactor that could.
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:39:30 PM

  • @wtm yes. And R3 looks sparser, unless it's just the angle and lighting.
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:40:11 PM

  • ahhhh.... smoke signals...
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:41:21 PM

  • @radioguy 3 reminds me of some burnt out building from the blitz. I think 2 is feeling neglected. :-) Still no word on what yesterday's drama was all about.
    by Nancy 5/8/2011 9:41:31 PM

  • US diplomatic cables show Japanese security was lacking online.wsj.com
    by Nancy 5/8/2011 9:42:22 PM

  • @Nancy That's more worrisome than some lame mea culpa.
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:42:56 PM

  • @Nancy @Radioguy what is more worrying is that US has a nuclear agreement re usage /production/stocks etc with Japan as in the Japanese Government and as we have witnessed the corporations are autonomous they do not answer to government .... but that is just my take on it
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 9:46:19 PM

  • Well two is the mystery reactor-in-a-box. What's going on in there? It's constant cycles of steaming. Dump and steam, dump and steam?
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:47:00 PM

  • @elainekirk Yes, reacting to Kan "No, we don't think so. Maybe later."
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 9:48:27 PM

  • Aha! Reloaded browser & can now see teppycam. Phew!
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 9:53:15 PM

  • @radioguy my favorite from that news article was the 6 security guards watching the plant that has been known to have North Korean subs in the area, most were sleeping on the job.
    by Nancy 5/8/2011 9:59:00 PM

  • should be back in a few hours, going out to eat
    by Nancy 5/8/2011 9:59:15 PM

  • don't understand what I'm seeing at #1 - although damaged, it used to have a flat roof
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:01:06 PM

  • @nancy enjoy :)
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:01:58 PM

  • @UKVal I think they must have been doing some rubble removal.
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 10:02:12 PM

  • @all, anyone have any recent reactor stats ??
    by wtm 5/8/2011 10:02:25 PM

  • @Radioguy, sort of looks like atarp in #1, on the right hand top side un
    der the roof framework ?
    by wtm 5/8/2011 10:03:51 PM

  • I've been trying to figure this bright thing they finally focused on
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 10:06:52 PM

  • @wtm I havent seen any for a few hours
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:08:41 PM

  • i's roof used to look as if the whole thing had slippled down by a floor. There wasn't a great deal of rubble - but there was a curious cylinder on the roof about 2x the size of a oxygen tank. Now there's a huge bulge. Why put a tarp on any of them?
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:09:29 PM

  • @UKVal They're trying to get the containment area clean enough to do the work they need to do. Maybe it's to cut off what contamination they can.
    by radioguy 5/8/2011 10:12:05 PM

  • @radioguy -suppose that fgures as much as some of the other wierd stuff like nappy filler & spray gel... Still can't understand revised roof shape for 1...
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:19:32 PM

  • what is the bright light in #3?
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:21:53 PM

  • @elaine - I've been wondering about that -seems the wrong angle for catching the sun
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:24:52 PM

  • A lot of tweets coming through in Japanese about the temp in #3
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:31:41 PM

  • reactor readings #3 going up up up
    atmc.jp
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:35:54 PM

  • & yet they don't seem to have watered 3 today like 1 and 4
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:38:40 PM

  • I think those readings are about as reliable as the weather.
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:41:51 PM

  • Seems we have strontium in the soil as well as the sea
    translate.google.com
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:42:34 PM

  • are they spraying the ground agian - or low level steam between 1 & 2
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:46:01 PM

  • @UKVal I think there's a Mother's Day Slip n' Slideā„¢ contest going on in between Reactors 1 & 2 today.
by Rob in SF 5/8/2011 10:47:37 PM

  • @Rob in SF lol!
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:50:38 PM

  • OK what is the flickering along the upper right edge of #4
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:54:38 PM

  • think must be spraying on east side of 2 or very strong down draft to steam
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:56:08 PM

  • @elainekirk : r u modding ?
    by Edano 5/8/2011 10:56:47 PM

  • I am edano what is problem?
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:57:37 PM

  • @Elaine -see what you mean- looks like steam but it's not rising
    by UKVal 5/8/2011 10:57:37 PM

  • I see what you mean by #2 @ukval And I hope you are right !!
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 10:58:23 PM

  • @elainekirk : could you pls exchange my pinned quakealert post ? with the next.
    by Edano 5/8/2011 10:58:35 PM

  • @elainekirk : thx a lot. :x
    by Edano 5/8/2011 10:59:42 PM

  • @edano :) @ukval now more on #4 did you say they had put tarp over sfp ? because it looking iffy
    by elainekirk 5/8/2011 11:01:05 PM

  • okyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA), and the Japanese government gave a joint press conference on Sunday and explained that an unusual amount of smoke that billowed from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power reactor on Saturday night was nothing to be concerned about. www.digtriad.com
by Majjham Zazen 5/8/2011 11:05:20 PM

  • @Majham it is fine them giving a joint press conference where they present a united front but at the end o the day of the three outfits there only 1 knows what is happening and the government and nisa are simply believing them
