@bo - thanks very much for the header translations. These www.tepco.co.jp are the latest temps for #3 and show a BIG drop at the mysterious 'brass phalange' that was so hot on May 9.

@hudebnik glad to be of help. My friend is happy to work on more translations as needed. One question, wouldn't a precipitous drop and rise in the temps also stress fragile systems? Not that it would be good to have an ongoing high temp, but does a Big drop also carry additional concerns?

@Elaine what does that mean? Is that 7 on the international scale? Or is it a quantitative measurement?

Interesting how the 'less good' news comes out in small items - "The operator of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is to begin construction work on pipes for the No.3 reactor to make sure that all cooling water being pumped in is actually reaching the reactor." ( www3.nhk.or.jp ) and "The operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says it may need to slow down some repairs at the Number one reactor due to elevated radiation levels.
Tokyo Electric Power Company measured the levels at several spots in the reactor building on Monday as part of its preparation to fill the containment vessel with water and restore a circulating cooling system." ( www3.nhk.or.jp ) - plus adding hydrazine to SFPs.

By the way while I'm on I noticed from the very clear TBS cam pics earlier that the camera isn't absolutely level, which maybe exaggerates the 'lean' on #4. The roof of #2 is still intact and thus level, and the vent pipes are still vertical I think (2 to choose from).

@hudebnik: you are so right. I wonder which kind of pipes they want to repair or construct in 3? It doesn't look welcoming so that you can go in an do some work easily... what do they mean with constructing pipes?

@elainekirk @bo Here is a good, understandable pdf on the INES classification www.webcitation.org (sorry if I repeat something you already know), if you look on page 17 ff. you see that there are also numbers for marine or liquid releases, at least until level 5, above this level there are additional reasons for classification considering beside others the whitespread of release @Rob in SF @hudebnik If I read the article Rob posted "At a press conference, TEPCO failed to confirm if the latest procedures would be enough to lessen the radiation levels and was unsure if the situation can be stabilized by October"

@bo - this is quite good (from Nancy's sequence) www.houseoffoust.com - using the right edge of the pipe in the vent stack and comparing with true vertical it looks to my eyes to be a couple of degrees off (appears to be leaning to the right).

@elainekirk they are thinking long term, so any takers at any time would be good. I think they do want to do five minutes today (Europe time) so they would like to talk to someone within a few hours, but they will happily talk to people in the next days as well
