  • I would be interested in seeing them Lurking.. I'm in Idaho near Boise and know that area over in Oregon ,,,, my email is up above
    by dean 5/19/2011 3:02:32 AM

  • @dean 4 blew up before sunrise and nobody can find any sort of video. TEPCO called it a fire for a while then started sometimes referring to it as an explosion. Elaine found something that she thought was a hallway between the 2 buildings. If that is the case it might have been a method for leaking. It also doesn't seem like they sealed up things unless they were required to.
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 3:03:10 AM

  • @Dean I can't agree with you more! I'm not convinced that SFP 4 is pristine. I'm not sure if we can believe much from Tepco these days. I sound like such a cynic! Time will tell.
    by LM 5/19/2011 3:03:26 AM

  • @Dean, thanks. I have a nephew based in Idaho at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Lots of military men in our family. My son in law (also Air Force) will be heading to Korea next month. I am thankful my daughter is not allowed to go.
    by Lurking 5/19/2011 3:04:56 AM

  • indeed Lurking,, I drive by mountain home on way to grandbabies...
    by dean 5/19/2011 3:05:34 AM

  • Nancy it's hard to tell... maybe they hand some connecting tunnel or something,,, I know that even gunderson's theory was an explosion.. I wonder if he felt that way after the cam when in to the 4 pool
    by dean 5/19/2011 3:06:57 AM

  • @Dean, the nephew in Mountain home really likes it there. He is in Calibration so he will be at "safe" bases. Son in law is in weapons maintenance, he will always be on a base with nukes. I know they are heavily protected but it still makes me nervous.
    by Lurking 5/19/2011 3:08:56 AM

  • @Nancy.. could you put the links to the cam's in please..

  • I can get a junior radiation tech online maybe tonight or tomorrow night, He says he's not top echelon, but that he'll try to answer what he can. For instance, he says gieger-muellers are not the best model for what a 'civilian' would want to measure, and that it needs to be calibrated with a 'known source', anyway.
by marie rich 5/19/2011 3:15:28 AM

  • @marie rich interesting...
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 3:16:16 AM

  • He thinks he'll be online in about an hour.
by marie rich 5/19/2011 3:17:09 AM

  • marie.. that's what I was wondering is the calibration to background.. other than that you just have to try to establish that outside then begin moving and getting readings and look for increases..
    by dean 5/19/2011 3:19:27 AM

  • @Nancy I will cut and paste the salient points into an email, to save and have available, if you actually want to sleep. :) @dean Yes, he says he has an idea where people could get/use a known source.

  • Radiation tests lacking / Nuclear plant workers unsure of internal exposure levels

    The Yomiuri Shimbun

Nearly two months after the start of the crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, only 10 percent of workers there had been tested for internal radiation exposure caused by inhalation or ingestion of radioactive substances, due to a shortage of testing equipment available for them.

Tokyo Electric Power Co., operator of the crippled nuclear compound, is finding it impossible to use testing apparatus set up inside the facility because of high radiation levels recorded near the equipment....READ on......

  • @Deb Thanks for that list of EQs from Jan-Mar! It's really interesting to see some of The Sam places getting hit over and over. Loyalty Islands just had another 7.0 this week. Japan is definitely NOT out of the woods and I hope they are seriously factoring this in at the plant.....although doubtful.

  • @Angie I didn't hear about the 6 feet of water in 6 turbine. I was in and out today. Do you know where the info came from? I haven't seen it in the usual suspects.

  • Radiation level at No.3 reactor water intake rises

The operator of the damaged nuclear power plant in Fukushima has reported a sharp rise in the concentration of a radioactive material in samples of seawater near the Number 3 reactor.

Tokyo Electric Power Company says it detected 110 becquerels of radioactive cesium-134 per cubic centimeters in seawater samples taken on Wednesday morning.

The level is 1,800 times the national legal limit, compared to 550 times, which was reported the previous day.
