  • @Nancy I hope someone here is able to translate that figure for us. I'll look into the full body scanner measurements to find out.
@UKVal I too hope that no nuance is "lost in translation" !
@Angie Yes, and if groundwater is leaking INTO the basements of 5&6, then just imagine how much must be leaking OUT of the others.

  • @all Anybody looking at the live cam now? Totally Different view.

  • Meretisa has the names research done. She looked for conflicts with other groups or other acronyms. I put the document on google docs and made it public with discussion open so you can leave comments on the doc. I am thinking we leave this for review til maybe Sunday. Set up the poll to go out Monday and end voting on Wednesday unless someone has a different idea or sees a problem with this plan. docs.google.com

  • @Reed yes ALOT!!!
    by Angie 5/19/2011 1:31:09 AM

  • @LM yes!
    by UKVal 5/19/2011 1:31:12 AM

  • @LM Just saw that too! I wonder if there's 2 cams now?
    by NervousinNJ 5/19/2011 1:31:40 AM

  • @LM - wow!!!
by Maureen Burke 5/19/2011 1:31:50 AM

  • @Reed "just imagine how much must be leaking OUT of the others." I keep expecting them to stumble onto some horrifically hot leak seeping into the sea. But if it's permeating out through a large dispersal field, it may be hard to detect.
by Rob in SF 5/19/2011 1:32:55 AM

  • You can clearly see smoke coming out the side of 4. I hope they still have other cam as well!
    by LM 5/19/2011 1:32:58 AM

  • check out the new cam - way better image but different location www.youtube.com
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 1:33:45 AM

  • @LM is it just me or do all of those towers look like they're leaning to the left?
    by UKVal 5/19/2011 1:34:06 AM

  • @Nancy "Internal exposure is caused by taking radioactive substances into the body via eating, drinking or breathing. Its unit, counts per minute (cpm), indicates the amount of radiation emitted per minute."
"As of May 8, 630 workers, or just 10 percent of all workers at the plant, had taken the test."
    by Reed 5/19/2011 1:34:33 AM

  • @UKVal I can't really tell..maybe.
    by LM 5/19/2011 1:35:23 AM

  • Closeups, TBS now
    by wtm 5/19/2011 1:36:25 AM

  • @Rob in SF I suspect the visual of oil into sand may be apt here.
    by Reed 5/19/2011 1:36:53 AM

  • @LM @UKVal Dont get me started on leaning towers again! lol I keep thinking they have been leaning for weeks! Poor Nancy had to draw lines in to show me they were not! lol
    by Angie 5/19/2011 1:37:07 AM

  • FWIW, I'm really suprised to see the Mickey Mouse (TEPCO?) counters taped to the PackBots when it could be a RADHunterâ„¢ or such...
The radHUNTER is an extremely sensitive and accurate digital hand-held gamma radionuclide identification device (RID). It is the culmination of over eight years of development of micro-miniature, digital signal processing electronics; operating power conservation; and advancements in the scintillation detector, radionuclide template matching identification algorithm. The radHUNTER development was supported in part by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), Human Portable Radiation Detection System (HPRDS) program.
Available in two configurations (NaI and LaBr), the radHUNTER is able to quickly detect, rapidly locate, accurately measure and precisely identify sources of contamination from their gamma radiation signature.

  • @Angie I'm with ya there, although I still say they are leaning (as well as R3) since that 6.2... Looks almost like the land under R3 and the tower closest to it is sinking or something...
    by NervousinNJ 5/19/2011 1:38:40 AM

  • @Reed Perhaps they should do some fracking, loosen things up a bit to get an idea of what's what?
by Rob in SF 5/19/2011 1:40:27 AM

  • @NervousinNJ there may be some out of square/leaning going on with more than just 4 from what I have seen and some other people are estimating.
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 1:40:53 AM

  • @Angie LOL..It was bugging me all evening from the other view..it looked like the side of 4 all the way to right was smoking heavily down low and I couldn't see it clearly. Now we know that it is! Oops back to other cam...
    by LM 5/19/2011 1:41:02 AM

  • @All, looks like TBS is setting up a second cam, somewhere from the South of the plant, if shows the ocean side of the plant.
    by wtm 5/19/2011 1:42:15 AM

  • Good glad I have some other "tower leaners" lol Do you think the other cam view is so we can see the Kitty float as well?? I didnt get a long enough look to know if we can see that far.........
    by Angie 5/19/2011 1:43:13 AM

  • @Angie I think that#s why he was panning round - as if trying to find it
    by UKVal 5/19/2011 1:44:03 AM

  • @Angie, don't know, but it was a lot clearer shot. It is a shot somewhere more to the right of where the Teppy cam is located, across a bay to the south someplace. They were switching back and forth between both cams.
    by wtm 5/19/2011 1:45:07 AM

  • @wtm @UKVal Did it look to be closer than the other cam? *sigh* wish they would go back to it! I am still trying to get organised as I just got home and ran straight to the computer!
    by Angie 5/19/2011 1:46:30 AM

  • @Angie, they pulled back on the cam shot the other day, and you could see where the cam is located in the mountains. It is about 20km away from the plant. No wonder we get a lot of haze in the shot !
    by wtm 5/19/2011 1:46:38 AM

  • @Angie I have had a bunch of people email me with their take on the buildings and towers. What I am still trying to figure out is the exact lean.
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 1:47:02 AM

  • @Nancy, to the right...to the right...LOL
    by wtm 5/19/2011 1:47:53 AM

  • @Nancy What @wtm said...........Although it kinda comes with a "beyonce" soundtrack in my head.......... It all looks to be going right........
    by Angie 5/19/2011 1:49:57 AM

  • If you look through haze at far right edge of 4...you can see white smoke about half way up. It's billowing on other side of building. I'm not sure if that's new but I haven't seen that white spot on the edge before today. Thanks to the other view you could see the mass of smoke. I love knowing when I'm not imagining something!

  • "One way would be using rupture disks, relatively thin sheets of steel that break and allows venting when the pressure reaches a specified level without any operator command or moving parts. But many in the industry argue that using such a disk requires that there be a way to close the vent once pressure is relieved to hold in radioactive materials" This is the lamest arguement. All you need to do is put a manual valve in series with the rupture disk and leave it open. You can close it after the rupture disk has done its job........LAME www.nytimes.com

  • @Nancy so maybe i'm not losing my mind completely lol :)
    by NervousinNJ 5/19/2011 2:01:34 AM

  • @NervousinNJ only partially. :-)
    by Nancy 5/19/2011 2:03:57 AM

  • @NervousinNJ I don't think you are. It also looks to me like there is a bigger slope from 3-4 then there was at beginning and they have acknowledged site sinkage.
    by LM 5/19/2011 2:04:30 AM
