@UKVal Good catch...It looks like black smoke to me..it appears to be moving and the smoke is staying close to ground.

They're all at it now -2,3,4

@LM yes! IIt could be coming from lower down on 2 given the wind direction

@UKVal I think the darkness we're seeing on the corner of #2 must be a shadow. It's very fixed in position and seems too consistent in shape for smoke.

@radioguy what I saw at 2 dawns was nothing like worklights thru mist & the shape was wrong

if so all that black smoke earlier was from 3...

TEPCO didn't follow Fukushima emergency manual
NHK has learned it is highly likely that the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant did not follow the procedures to prevent a hydrogen explosion.

NHK obtained the manual for the No.1 reactor, where the hydrogen blast occurred on March 12th, one day after the tsunami destroyed the reactor's cooling system.

A failure of the cooling system causes the pressure inside the reactor's container vessel to rise and generates the risk of a hydrogen explosion.

The manual calls for releasing air from the vessel when the pressure is projected to rise to 853 kilopascals -- double the operating limit.

A venting operation is necessary to prevent the vessel from being damaged, which could lead to the leakage of a large amount of radioactive substances.

The manual NHK has obtained shows that the pressure inside the vessel was close to the level that requires a venting operation 13 hours before the explosion occurred.

But the plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, did not start the operation until 6 and a half hours before the explosion, and the operation was carried out just one and a half hours before the blast because it was hampered by high-level radioactivity.

A former nuclear plant engineer, Masashi Goto, says the utility should have released air when the pressure rose close to twice the operating limit.

Goto says if the company had done this, the amount of hydrogen leaked from the reactor core to the container vessel would have been smaller, reducing the risk of an explosion.

Tokyo Electric declined to comment, saying it is evaluating its decision to release the air.

@LM it's either smoke frfrom low down on 2 or a shadow cast by 3 on 2. As it doesn't vary much I'm beginning to think the latter.

@UKVal Obviously I could be wrong! If the smoke were coming from lower on that corner..given wind it would create that arc.

@LM yes -that's why it's hard to say, especially as it's so low down & comparatively sheltered. But the steam from 4 has shifted round a bit & that hasn't moved.

when the smoke event happened earlier it started orm that corner, expanded up & along the wall towards the cam then spread out over 3

I received some new data on the stability issues at #4 and also the land changes due to the quake. The area at the plant dropped over 1.5 feet and shifted about 7-8 feet horizontally. Also some new data on the buildings. Towers are leaning and more than 4 has a shift to the building. www.houseoffoust.com

@hudebnik .. but it wasn't until you commented on what oyu'd seen that I thought about my obs that am & realised it couldn't have been the sun on the water - wrong shape & place

@Nancy wow! that's some shift!!! Glad to know it's not just my eyesight on the towers. When we saw the other cam pics form shorelevel I thought they were leaning backwards (ie towards tippycam) too

@hudebnik It's even more wierd to watch it on screen at the time. The 1st time I saw it I thought my eyes had gone!

@nancy - seems to be coming out lower down the wall tho it is soo hard to tell
