Japan Earthquake | Page 1327

  • @dean you are very alert this morning I will now be walking around sniffing all day
    by elainekirk 5/23/2011 12:14:50 PM

  • he he.. I had a good sleep... I'll stop making non techies..
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:15:29 PM

  • @dean Can give generalised info about what is used and how, but I don't know counting statistics or the computerized analysis stuff to translate between CCPM and internal deposition (or particulr isotope by spectra). That part is beyond me. I previously tried to find out specifically what equipment they were using to monitor invivo and I couldn't find that out either..LOL
    by RBeaner 5/23/2011 12:19:04 PM

  • @Nancy for good monitoring, must have very low background rad levels. Much shielding is required even in "normal" background areas. Couldn't do it to close to daichi right now.
    by RBeaner 5/23/2011 12:21:32 PM

  • RBeaner anything you can shed light on would help and appreciated
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:27:47 PM

  • check email @ nancy
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:33:36 PM

  • Good afternoon (evening/ morning) all. It's blowing a gale here but still no rain. I've lst many plants I've had for over 15 years :-((((( Ty for all the info Edano.
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:35:07 PM

  • I gather there was no flash or sun aua to be seen at dusk. Different cloud cover? Too much wind??
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:37:02 PM

  • aua= aura - my typing again (& keyboard probs)
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:37:30 PM

  • @dean I can get it completed here in a few minutes, working on group web things this morning.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 12:40:42 PM

  • www.google.com click this link and it opens a pdf file on portable whole body counting
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:42:46 PM

  • okie dokie Nancy
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:43:01 PM

  • www.thermoscientific.com will probably see more of these on the market
    by dean 5/23/2011 12:48:33 PM

  • wow I see earthquakes are moving north & west from the Mediterranean -now Poland, Czech, Republic & westof Portugal. Looks like the Pacific Plate has pushed the Eurasion plate & that is now bumping up against the North American plate & round & round.
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:51:34 PM

  • @UKVal No flash of lights, or aura from last night. Just the same blue light special going on inside and white steam so far this morning.
    by deb 5/23/2011 12:52:38 PM

  • Hi @deb - the TBS cam did go pink again at dusk - would you have a moment to review your recording around 1905 JST to see if there was a flash or other fireworks?
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 12:54:33 PM

  • @deb Hi! re the blue light. I think, only think, that it's a shiny cube which shows up thru the holes in the building at night (but also sometimes during the day). However I have seen 2 spots glowing to the right of this on occasions & those are a real mystery..
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:55:06 PM

  • @hudebnik can you remind me of the time difference between BST and JST... keep forgetting...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:57:06 PM

  • JST is +8 (I hope!)
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 12:57:40 PM

  • @hudebnik ty. I got muddled when the UK moved to BST
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 12:58:07 PM

  • @UKVal re: earthquakes; plate shifts: Yes, there's a lot of activity and I'm sitting not very far from a fault. I hope nothing big happens around here.
by Pedro Jesus 5/23/2011 12:58:45 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus - yes it's certainly been hotting up in Spain & Portugal . I thought of you when I saw the last ones. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you (it might improve my typing too!)
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:00:39 PM

  • @hudebnik JST is UTC +9
    by deb 5/23/2011 1:01:55 PM

  • @deb ah I think UTC is the same as GMT...

  • @UKVal Thanks Val. Well, if anything happens around here you'll have full live coverage. I'm not worried about myself; I'm more worried about some of my friends who live in lower and/or more populated areas. This place up on the hill is quite safe.
by Pedro Jesus 5/23/2011 1:04:37 PM

  • @UKVal You are right on the GMT
    by deb 5/23/2011 1:04:37 PM

  • @deb thanks - useful if you live in the States or Oz -I'm really ignorant - I've never heard of half of those time zones!. Think the name UTC was to avoid the reference to Greenwich with its overtones of colonialism....
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:06:11 PM

  • What is the exact wording for SCRAM if you write it out?
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 1:06:38 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus glad to hear you're in a safer area. Hope your friends don't have any catastrophes
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:06:54 PM

  • back later busy day :)
    by elainekirk 5/23/2011 1:11:07 PM

  • @UKVal The thing that most worries me is I've been living in the south of Portugal for 15 years and I've never heard of a earthquake, let alone tsunami, drills. People here think nothing really bad is ever going to happen. People think they only have to worry about the yearly floods when heavy rains coincide with the high tide. We just had a major flood in Faro last week. My girlfriend's brother's car had water up to windscreen level; will need a new engine at least.
by Pedro Jesus 5/23/2011 1:11:21 PM

  • Hey guys just on my way to bed........@thunder has given a update on TS Songda...........Lets hope the models get this wrong, although could explain the push to sure up #4.......
    by Angie 5/23/2011 1:12:07 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus yearly floods??!!!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:13:22 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus I don't think many countries are as prepared as the Japanese. Not sure if they have earthquake drills in the States or NZ for e.g....
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:14:35 PM

  • @Angie Songda does look worrying...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:15:06 PM

  • @Nancy Shove Control Rods Avoid Meltdown (sorry couldn't resist that!)
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:15:54 PM

  • @hudebnik I put some new video up, late last night, all taken during sundown. I also watched, no choice when I record, and didn't note anything unusual. www.youtube.com
    by deb 5/23/2011 1:15:56 PM

  • @deb thanks for all yr work debs. Must be very inconvenient at times
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:17:23 PM

  • @UKVal They do not have earthquake drills in the USA. I think at most the kids are taught to stand in a doorframe and hold on tight
    by deb 5/23/2011 1:17:30 PM

  • @deb that's what I suspected...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:17:54 PM

  • @UKVal LOL, only when I want to chat on here about something crazy going on out there. It should be easier now, I have a 2nd PC connected and recording 24/7. Only problem with this, the files will be too long for utube. My project today is to get a program that will slice and dice the long recordings.
    by deb 5/23/2011 1:23:35 PM

  • @deb well thanks once again Deb it's really appreciated by me & I'm sure everyone here
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 1:25:13 PM

  • Ok have to sleep........when you get a chance have look on the other board about the typhoon with the same name that hit in 2004. Night guys!
