  • Is there still a danger of re-criticality or burning?
    by Nancy 5/29/2011 1:20:41 AM

  • I thought this mornig they said levels of some rads are on the rise, raising the question of re-criticality about 10 hours ago.

  • From other baord by Thunder:
Ok guys gota go do some house work or my wife will kill me!!! @Veen and anyone else, that storm continues weakening faster than forecast which is of course great!!! That track map though again moves a little further north, not so good but overall.... it's been lucky(for Japan and Fukushima) that conditions have hammered it over the last 24-36 hours, the westerly's and high wind shear really have put a big damper on Songda and subdued it's once supremely emense power!!! If it had the same ride up there as Aere did(more favourable conditions further north) crap would be about to hit the fan! The rain is still a big worry it can be followed @JMA and a few other sites including the one I usually use and that has been posted by @Majj agora.ex.nii.ac.jp also has links to Fukushima weather radar and current and forecast wind maps! On the waves....I thought this long ago, storm surge would push rad water on shore and rough conditions in the ocean and along the shore with the wind may very well whip up rad water particles into the atmosphere....it's not based on too much but a theory of mine!!! Oh and one last thing JMA has a multitude of warnings and advisories.... found here www.jma.go.jp funny thing though.....Fukushima has only dense fog advisories in place....what a friggin joke!

  • Cooling system stops at No.5 reactor in Fukushima
    English.news.cn 2011-05-29 10:14:04 FeedbackPrintRSS

TOKYO, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Cooling system at a reactor of the crippled Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant stopped from Saturday, the plant's operator said Sunday.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. said the pumps to cool the nuclear reactor and fuel pool have stopped at the No. 5 unit, and the operator is now working to switch to backup pumps to restore the cooling system.

When a worker at the plant became aware of the problem at 9 p.m. Saturday, the temperature of the reactor stood at 68 degrees Celsius and that of the fuel pool at 41 degrees Celsius.

They had risen to 87 degrees Celsius and 44 degrees Celsius, respectively, by the time TEPCO began work to restore operations shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, it said.

  • It's been a busy 24-36 hours. We have learned: 1. Reactor #5 lost cooling 2. Re-criticality in #1 3. Radioactive iodine heading for west coast 4. Large amounts of nuclear material in stratosphere 5. Plutonium detected in Matsudo, Japan
    by Bobby1 5/29/2011 3:30:15 AM

  • @Bobby1 I didn't hear about recriticality at 1 or the iodine hitting the west coast?
    by Nancy 5/29/2011 3:33:43 AM

  • @Bobby1 Hi! I haven't been around today and hadn't heard about #1 or the iodine either....
    by LM 5/29/2011 3:37:18 AM

  • @Nancy The CTBTO data showed a sharp increase in iodine on the 23rd, must be new fission... it's probably #1 chugging... it's been 5 days so it's about to hit there.
    by Bobby1 5/29/2011 3:37:30 AM

  • @All- what?? recriticality? iodine? just back on and saw this. WHAT??

    by Nancy 5/29/2011 3:44:45 AM

  • @Nancy The time stamp on my copy of the bright pink light was the 21st...that would be the 22nd I think there.
