  • Is it a Tanuki, perhaps?
    by es 6/1/2011 11:36:08 PM

  • @Nancy glad you said that - there are a few dog breeds that are somewhat fox like
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:36:20 PM

  • @es what is a tanuki?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:36:40 PM

  • @Nancy From wiki "Tanuki (狸 or タヌキ?) is the common Japanese name for the Japanese raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides viverrinus). They have been part of Japanese folklore since ancient times. The legendary tanuki is reputed to be mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absent-minded."

  • Todays hot tweet is a clip of the Kan -Obama mutual admiration club - the people of Japan are not happy as tbs show www.youtube.com

  • by UKVal via Japanesetranslationservice.org 6/1/2011 11:38:02 PM

  • Most of the generic dogs in Japan are similar to either an Akita or a Shiba. They have very distinct body styles. There really are not any common dogs that have spindly legs like that and a fox face plus lots of fur.
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:38:20 PM

  • @UKVal very possibly what it was.
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:39:06 PM

  • @Nancy could be - although appeared quite thin
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:39:54 PM

  • If it is a tanuki than it's a skinny one..
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:40:02 PM

  • ..they are supposed to be 'shape shifters'!
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:40:48 PM

  • He's probably sick. Likely lots of dead things to eat but most have probably rotted beyond what scavengers will eat and the radiation has to be making him ill.
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:41:13 PM

  • OO anyone notice anything odd about the tepco stream? it seems that it may be erm translate.google.com
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:41:19 PM

  • The Possum I thought I saw yesterday was probably a tanuki..
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:42:04 PM

  • If they have a winter coat they would be skinny looking after shedding it. I don;t know abt. the critter to know tho
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:42:05 PM

    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:58:48 PM

    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:00:50 AM

    by elainekirk 6/2/2011 12:00:59 AM

  • @Elainekirk Thanks! @UKVal I think that's just shadow.
    by LM 6/2/2011 12:01:57 AM

  • @LM don't think so -it's obscuring the supports
    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:02:34 AM

  • @UKVal You're right but I don't see it moving anywhere.
    by LM 6/2/2011 12:03:57 AM

  • @LM must be pretty sheltered there -
    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:05:13 AM

  • it's definitely moving...
    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:06:47 AM

  • Look at this shot of #1 and compare it to what the tepco cam showing. See bottom left of this pic how the ground just drops? I think that cam is up there because the fault has caused damage they don't want to be known

    by elainekirk 6/2/2011 12:07:12 AM

  • It does look like it could be, but what would be smoking there?
    by LM 6/2/2011 12:07:52 AM

  • @elainekirk TEPCO has been strategically editing images. There were some supposedly new ones of 4 that took great pains to keep the really damaged parts out of the picture.
    by Nancy 6/2/2011 12:08:31 AM

  • @Elaine There's been some serious movement there!
    by LM 6/2/2011 12:09:12 AM

  • @elainekirk That "erm" link you posted, I went deeper into it and am on a page where they say this: Summary suspension order and the shipment at customs import injunction issue after the nuclear accident Geiger counter Fukushima: translate.googleusercontent.com
    by deb 6/2/2011 12:10:16 AM

  • looks to me as if the smoke is coming off the surface below & being trapped against the side of the hill...
    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:10:26 AM

  • @UKVal The wind is pretty stiff so I suppose that's possible.
    by LM 6/2/2011 12:11:46 AM

  • i hope it's not roast tanuki...
    by UKVal 6/2/2011 12:11:52 AM

    by elainekirk 6/2/2011 12:11:56 AM
