  • @elainekirk I agree.. it's mindboggling to understand & impossible to forgive
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 10:50:47 PM

  • @es we must remember @val we recently had advisors resign over govs use of 'experts' opinion didnt we? not nuke but shows how widespread the problem is
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 10:52:48 PM

  • @UKVal Level field and al... The (american) people were also taken up with the scientific fututopia. It was everywhere in the writings. The science revolution was part and parsle with the nuclear revolution.
    by RBeaner 6/1/2011 10:52:52 PM

  • Econimic interersts rule. The trade unions supported nuke power unitil the last few moths as well. I heard a radio programme talking to people round Sellafield today. All bar 1 had worked at the plant, all were positive about it. dissenting voices are few where jobs are at stake in an area where jobs are scarce.
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 10:53:55 PM

  • @RBeaner True. I spent my early years in Oxford where my parents knew a lot of scientists. Nuke power was seen as the miracle of the age -electricity would be too cheap to meter & would drive the technological revolution

  • Iceland is literally breaking into two as the plates (one of which is the North American Plate that reaches Japan) move apart . The Icelanders arent worried they know it will happen and they have prepared for it.
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 10:57:52 PM

  • @elainekirk gosh -how does 1 prepare for something so monumental?
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 10:58:30 PM

  • Hi all! on and off today....TBS cam update..Starting to see a tiny bit of the plant so it looks like TBS will still have a visual once the weather is better..Yay! The Tepco cam is pathetic....but I suppose better than the once an hour still shot.
    by LM 6/1/2011 10:59:44 PM

  • @LM Hi -yes you can just about see the plant on TBS. The Tepco cam is really frustrating but i did see steam rising from 4 for a while before full daylight.
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:01:13 PM

  • They amaze me @val there are 350,000 Icelanders , the island has only been inhabited since the 900's , They are prepared for any volcano blowing and any sign of potential flooding the take out every bridge in the path because then the water doesnt have its route to the sea hindered therefore less devastation
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:02:09 PM

  • I have some questions on the links going to twitter, fb etc? So any post we make here if it has a link will go out to twitter, fb and possibly the website? What if we are sending links to testing pages, or something that isn't a news article etc? Are posts without links stripped out?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:02:28 PM

  • @UKVal You're right about the steam from 4...thought I saw some from 3 as well. It's really hard to see given the cam angle they've chosen.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:02:48 PM

  • @LM yeah TEPCO must have spent a lot of time finding the 'right' place for the cam. Even the devastated buildings put on their best face.
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:04:14 PM

  • @elainekirk The Icelanders sound like very resourceful people who could teach us all a lot
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:05:05 PM

  • @Nancy - I'm not sure I think Veenie has the answer to your qu
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:05:58 PM

  • Possum on Tepco cam....
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:11:00 PM

  • @LM it looks sick
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:11:37 PM

  • @UKVal It's pretty slow moving..
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:13:37 PM

  • is he still there?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:14:29 PM

  • @LM I missed it going -which way did it go?
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:14:47 PM

  • @Nancy Just stepped out of sight under the pipe.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:15:05 PM

  • I have just one question, is anyone here an ADMIN for Scribble ?
    by Veenie 6/1/2011 11:15:29 PM

  • I mean vesides Geroge ?
    by Veenie 6/1/2011 11:15:50 PM

  • @veenie I dunno think just George
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:17:26 PM

  • @LM was it definitely a possum - I thought it might be a sitka deer
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:17:44 PM

  • @UKVal I think you might be right. The animal I saw yesterday was definitely a possum..but this one looked more like a deer.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:19:08 PM

  • @LM - lots of deer round here -but no possums so I'm not sure I'd be able to identify 1 at distance!
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:20:27 PM

  • @UKVal I get it! It breaks my heart to see these animals near the plant!
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:22:31 PM

  • poor thing's probably been drinking the radioactive water
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:22:38 PM

  • @LM yes & the birds too -those that call near the TBS cam are heartrending
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:23:21 PM

  • Obama and Kan use the international stage to kiss ass and the international media fawn over their every word iipdigital.usembassy.gov meanwhile in Japan....
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:23:58 PM

  • @UKVal Not to mention the vegetation. All the wildlife in that area will suffer catastrophically.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:24:13 PM

  • @Nancy Veenie can answer best and correct me if I'm wrong but, as far as I understand it, only posts containing links are currently being fed to Twitter (with a #Fukushima prefix) and FB from this board. Nothing on the other board is being picked up so I suppose not-to-be-published test links or links to dubious opinion articles can continue to be posted there and not be broadcast. I don't think the feed has yet been embedded on the website.
    by es 6/1/2011 11:25:14 PM

  • It's back!
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:26:24 PM

  • Many animals have a much shorter lifespan than humans and therefore probably have higher survival rates as cancer develops over time , however I should imagine that their offspring will be badly deformed so...
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:26:53 PM

  • Might be a fox..long tail.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:26:54 PM

  • I think thats right @es though I cannot be certain
    by elainekirk 6/1/2011 11:27:34 PM

  • @LM I was about to post the same thing
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:27:34 PM

  • I don't think it is a possum, looks like a fox. A red pandas common critters?
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:30:10 PM

  • @Nancy I think it's a fox too.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:31:09 PM

  • In this country it wouldn't sit in the open like that unless it was sick
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:31:18 PM

  • It is unusual for it to be staying out in the open.
    by LM 6/1/2011 11:33:00 PM

  • please tell me it's not someone's dog who's found the scent of humans & is hoping for rescue
    by UKVal 6/1/2011 11:34:07 PM

  • @UKVal nope I do not think it is a dog, doesn't have the body shape or body movements for a dog. Fox, do they have a type of coyote
    by Nancy 6/1/2011 11:35:21 PM

  • @UKVal I was wondering the same thing. It does look like it could be a dog. I hope not!
