  • Discrimination increases torment of Fukushima
IT was supposed to be a lifetime highlight, but the wedding plans of a bride-to-be from Fukushima have turned into a nightmare thanks to the new post-crisis phenomenon of radiation discrimination.

The woman, whose name is not yet known, had booked a photographer for her wedding this month and was looking forward to tying the knot with her partner of eight years.

But her plans turned to ashes when her future mother-in-law blurted out: "What if we don't have a healthy child because of the radiation?". www.theaustralian.com.au

  • A long wait for solace in a ravaged land
THE scattered vehicles hastily abandoned by the side of the narrow road from Fukushima City to Iitate village offer the first clues that we probably shouldn't be here. Ordinarily on such an early morning, this important agricultural area would be humming with activity. Now, we mostly see rumbling convoys of troop carriers and the armoured vehicles of the Self Defence Forces. This is not a war zone, but it is abandoned and eerie, like the aftermath of an invasion.

Occasionally an ambulance or police car, with red lights flashing, roars past. The drivers are wearing surgical cover-ups - a look that unsettles more than it reassures. www.canberratimes.com.au

  • @fitter I gave the links on here I meant by 'getting the others' that you search google for the nrc inspection report on a particular station and then go get the docs refered to in the report
    by elainekirk 6/10/2011 3:56:03 PM

  • @panser they are great reports you found , the sort that make people stop and think

  • @elainekirk I agree. I think we'll see more and more of these, particularly as journalists decide to take a chance on this type of story

  • @Elaine question on other board from MB about a new poster yesterday, can you chime in?
    by Panserbjorne9 6/10/2011 4:02:17 PM

  • @elainekirk Is it possible to pin instructions above so that it would be easy for everyone to be able to locate the plants that might be in there locations... I think it would help everyone, that is a big site to manover

  • @Panserbjorne9 Great interview on the ABC website. The populace in Japan was exposed to extremely high levels of I-131, I-132, and I-135, there were no warnings given, no potassium iodide was given out, anything. This occurred when the GoJ had detailed information on how much radiation there was and where it was going. Unforgivable.

  • @elainekirk What do you mean?
by Pedro Jesus 6/10/2011 5:31:07 PM

  • The explanation was that water from SFP leaking via damaged gate to reactor location, but after we saw underwater unit 4 video we know that gate is not damaged
