Japan Earthquake | Page 1572

  • @lillymunster A big smoke/steam event occurred for at least 2 hrs prior to daybreak and I think we now have fog on top of it..It was pretty scary. I think WolfDK filmed it...
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:26:26 PM

  • @Bobby1 All right, I just found your comment a bit rude that's all. We have two more people here thinking that that article is most probably an artifice of translation. I do my best effort to confirm or contradict the news by checking them out and comparing with other sources. It's the only way to know if we're on the right track or been mislead. =)
by Pedro Jesus 6/10/2011 7:26:27 PM

  • @Bobby1 I think it was a poor translation for the word floor.
@RBeaner Thanks for the posts about corium characteristics and behaviors. They are excellent.

by Pedro Jesus 6/10/2011 7:26:51 PM

  • @rbeaner those workers should have a screen showing messages of support coming from around the world as it is their work goes unacknowledged due to the failure of government, tepco and the media to inform
    by elainekirk 6/10/2011 7:29:01 PM

  • BTW there was a UK paper with a poor translation in their headline. Headline said something about corium through the base floor but the article talked about leaking out of the RPV. So this could be just a huge game of telephone where one bad translation is getting scooted around. But we should keep looking to see if there is an actual admission of new info on the reactors.
    by lillymunster 6/10/2011 7:30:01 PM

  • @Reed I really think those studies suggest we are better off than we have thought with regard to the corium. Even with cracks in the basemat, I think the thinner the corium becomes, the easier to cool. Spread it out and let it drip. Keep the water coming and this fiasco may be stopped yet!
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 7:30:02 PM

  • Does anyone know if we have video capture of the last 2 hours. I was out and about and not near a computer most of the day.
    by lillymunster 6/10/2011 7:30:22 PM

  • @lillymunster WolfDK said he was filming but had to go out...he was going to let it run. I don't think he's back yet.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:31:39 PM

  • @lillymunster 3 and 4 looked incredibly angry!! 2 was also spewing.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:32:36 PM

  • @elainekirk Not to belittle or disparage the nuclear workers at the site, but they made a choice, and with that comes elevated risk. I am more concerned with the civilians and kids that had little or NO say in the making of this disaster, meaning the starting of these plants. Those people wern't given a choice or an understanding in the hazards involved. I hope (although I've seen differing opinion) the nuclear workers have a basic understanding of the risks involved.
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 7:35:46 PM

  • It's raining there now..can see it on cam.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:36:26 PM

  • When fully encaspsulated the workers have an added 10-12degrees C to the wet bulb globe temperature. Moisture in the environment also adds a lot of heat stress. For those like me who think in deg. F... if the ambient temp is 85 deg f at 90% humidity that creates a heat stress of 101.6 deg F, not including solar radiation.
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:37:01 PM

  • According to TEPCO still webcam no fog. You can see the sea horizon and the cliff behind the plant.

    by estacion 6/10/2011 7:38:00 PM

  • @RBeaner I agree. The fact that the water and the 'mixed materials' may have helped keep the corium 'chunky' seems to be a rare positive effect.
    by Reed 6/10/2011 7:38:50 PM

  • @carabnr I haven't seen your write up on heat stress, but I understand you did a detailed one?
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 7:38:59 PM

  • Any one know what HAPPENED TO THE UPPER SECTION OF THE THE BOARD? Opps... Looks like Bose and Kellogs are our supporters now.
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:39:06 PM

  • I@ RBeaner, I did. Perhaps too deatailed... I wanted to have medical resources to back up my report, and I let it get out of hand. 2600 words for the long one and 800 for the short one.
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:40:40 PM

  • @carabnr supporters vary with IP location. ;)
    by estacion 6/10/2011 7:40:48 PM

  • So can someone explain how things work with ads and scribble.
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:42:09 PM

  • @LM What were they doing? Was it lots of steam and smoke with pressure behind it? Did you see what area of the buildings it was coming out of?
    by lillymunster 6/10/2011 7:44:59 PM

  • @carabnr my pins look normal, but everyonce in a while I get an "expanding" ad. Ive found the best thing to do is NOT to close it, just click somewhere on the page and it goes away for a long time.
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 7:45:31 PM

  • @lillymunster: #2 from behind, #3 from top, # from top.
    by estacion 6/10/2011 7:46:50 PM

  • @lillymunster On 4 it appeared to be coming out the center with tremendous pressure and 3 also appeared to be near center but the Tepco cam angle makes it difficult to tell.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:47:05 PM

  • #*

    by LM 6/10/2011 7:47:52 PM

  • @carabnr I was taken down for 36-48 hours by ""XP internet Se4curity 2012"" It was very nasty, then I had something hit my android phone with just one post with 2 links. I spent an hour trying to figure out how to put links on a phone post..LOL Ka sera, sera
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 7:48:35 PM

  • @LM toward the end before fog two looked the darkest to me??//
    by fitter 6/10/2011 7:49:07 PM

  • @lillymunster There also appeared to be bright flashes near the tops of 3 and 4. It was intense.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:49:22 PM

  • @fitter It could've been. There was a lot of smoke and I think it's still coming out....my two cents.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:50:38 PM

  • @LM what ever it was it look mean....
    by fitter 6/10/2011 7:50:46 PM

  • @LM all i have now is fog, but the bottom of buildind one seemed to be blocked by something black
    by fitter 6/10/2011 7:51:49 PM

  • Tere isn't any fog at Daiichi, pease check TEPCO Stillcam

    by estacion 6/10/2011 7:52:02 PM

  • @estacion that picture is made before 50 minutes. In about 10 mins we will have new one.
    by DT 6/10/2011 7:52:55 PM

  • @ Rbeaner wow. @ Fog discussion looked like 2an 3 to me I thought I could see a crane in front of one of the buildings.
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:53:15 PM

  • Clearing. #1 is visible.
    by jt 6/10/2011 7:53:55 PM

  • Are they hosing 1?
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:54:02 PM

  • Hmm. TBS cam is socked in. The still image looks overcast but with more fog/smoke concentrated in the plant area. The live TEPCO looks completely clear until you get down to the buildings.
    by lillymunster 6/10/2011 7:55:27 PM

  • @dt please believe estacion she was watching and I saw it just before the steam started and it developed from #4 which prior to that time had a very high steam/smoke jet coming from it
    by elainekirk 6/10/2011 7:55:36 PM

  • Looks like the listing of the individuals resposibilities on the pin board is gone. Wonder Why?
    by carabnr 6/10/2011 7:57:00 PM

  • Ignore my hosing 1 post...it was an optical illusion...just pipes.
    by LM 6/10/2011 7:58:11 PM

  • @LM It seems to be clearing pretty fast. I can see part of 2 now. The steam out of 4 is concerning. They supposedly have the SFP there under control and why the SFP would suddenly spew steam or smoke with force AND 3 starts up just doesn't make sense. I have to wonder if there is a direct connection between the lower part of 3 and into 4 that is letting 3's steam push out.
    by lillymunster 6/10/2011 7:59:38 PM

  • @carabnr The one listing george and dean contact info? Middle of the page. Or is it a different one?
    by Markfm 6/10/2011 8:00:20 PM

  • @carabnr Maybe it was a simple adjusment and updating. We aren't the Gov dude, You or anyone else talks, I I I (hopefully we) listen.
    by RBeaner 6/10/2011 8:00:49 PM

  • @lillymunster You have a good point. 4 was going strong for a while and 3 really started in...the smoke/steam in 3 was darker and barely visible at first and then it started in earnest as 4 got worse and worse. 2 got worse as well..
