  • by this time, any smoke or steam vapor coming off the reactors that is of a dark or off normal color is cause of concern. remember back when we thought there was an oil fire or some thing like diesel

    by Dude 6/10/2011 9:55:06 PM

  • by the way: meanwhile i translated the "notes" section on the data sheets. it shows that tepco states daily another instrument failure. seems there won't be many correct readings left with the time.

  • dinner time.. be back later
    by dean 6/10/2011 9:58:21 PM

  • @es but anyway on that high contrast pic you cant really see much! the only result we can have with comparison from streamcam is that on stillcam its rather clear and on streamcam ist like milksoup (if its a 4am shot, if not we can forget that one)
    by Dude 6/10/2011 9:58:24 PM

  • Is that dark smoke coming from4?
    by LM 6/10/2011 10:01:12 PM

  • Yeah, I am pretty sure that 4 is still smoking
    by wrshpr 6/10/2011 10:01:40 PM

  • @LM : no, the tower behind it is darker.
    by Edano 6/10/2011 10:01:58 PM

  • @edano I agree but the smoke/steam seems a tad darker to me..could be optical illusion.

  • Have a couple more that I am working on uploading now

    by deb 6/10/2011 10:29:14 PM

  • @lilly agreed, distinct flashes on that video. Compare with my original flash on 21 May fukushimafaq.wikispaces.com I theorised at the time whether it could be some sort of air ionisation effect caused by radiation releases - so far neither proved or disproved. But it sure looked as if something was going on tonight!
    by hudebnik 6/10/2011 10:29:22 PM

  • @es It was to right of the stack furthest to the right..There is something there but I saw a much brighter flash.

  • My non techi thoughts on the steam - I cannot see how they can get that amount of water needed to create such a volume of steam into 1 source i.e, #4sfp so I think they must be frantically pouring water in at least 2 locations

  • Radiation in No. 3 reactor too high for work

The operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant says radiation levels in one of the reactor buildings remain too high for workers to do their jobs.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, or TEPCO, sent 9 workers into the No.3 reactor building for about 20 minutes on Thursday, in a bid to start stabilizing the reactor.

The utility plans to inject nitrogen gas into the containment vessel to prevent accumulated hydrogen from causing an explosion. It also intends to install a system to cool the reactor with circulating water.

The workers withdrew after measuring radiation of 100 millisieverts per hour near the reactor's containment vessel.

TEPCO says it intended to limit the workers' exposure to below 5 millisieverts per hour. But as all 9 received higher doses, it has suspended work while considering a course of action.

  • @hudebnik I noticed flashes around the plants and a few small ones in the bushes. So either something past the bushes or some sort of small sparks in the air?
