  • ATENTION BIG QUAKE, BIG QUAKE at Daiichi a minute ago.
    by estacion 6/13/2011 9:01:35 PM

  • Has anyone found any confirmed information about the spent fuel at #1 having the water vaporized out and the spent fuel melted? I saw this mentioned in passing on blogs twice now today but no confirmation or source on either. Don't know if this has any evidence or another internet rumor.. ;-)
    by lillymunster 6/13/2011 9:07:17 PM

  • Hi all! Got some fresh air...got back just in time for Tepco cam shake. Looks like the cam angle changed a tad because of the quake. Anyone know what that building is all the way on the right? It seems to be smoking a bit.
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:07:55 PM

  • @Lilly Wow..pretty scary. I hadn't heard that. I'll try to dig up some info.
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:09:05 PM

  • @All. From the tweets I just saw they are talking about M4.4 earthquake.
@LM Some time ago after another quake the cam was in the same angle.
    by DT 6/13/2011 9:09:56 PM

  • 4.8 prelim with seismic lvl 3
    by Veenie 6/13/2011 9:10:29 PM

  • @DT I thought I noticed that building before...it must've been after another quake.
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:11:40 PM

  • @LM...isn't that the spent fuel building, or am I off base?
    by wrshpr 6/13/2011 9:11:58 PM

  • @LM That's right. But I don't know what that building is.
@All Good Night from beautiful Bulgaria :)
    by DT 6/13/2011 9:12:23 PM

  • I also think that the camera shifted at least sighly more this time. I think you can see a little more of that new building then before. I unfortunately didn't see this quake, though I saw the last one which jarred the camera.
    by wrshpr 6/13/2011 9:13:03 PM

  • @wrshpr I thought the common pool was further down past 4. I don't know about that building.
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:13:17 PM

  • Night DT!
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:13:36 PM

  • @LM...I know somewhere in this morass we have a very good diagram of everything at the plant, but we have spent so much time amassing so much information that its a bit like Ebay, too much data and it can be hard to find your particular needle in the haystack.
    by wrshpr 6/13/2011 9:14:27 PM

  • @Veenie Thanks for the EQ update! After the cam shook I went to the other scribble hoping you had posted. You're the go-to source!!
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:15:40 PM

  • @LM Actually, estacion is a very reliable source too !!
    by Veenie 6/13/2011 9:16:42 PM

  • @lillymunster I have a theory regarding the coincidence of large emissions of steam at Fukushima Daiichi NPP and the occurrence of earthquakes. We know that aftershocks can be anticipated with fair accuracy. TEPCO probably de-pressurizes the units when they get an EQ warning to limit potential further damage to the crippled units. What do you think?
by Pedro Jesus 6/13/2011 9:17:09 PM

  • BTW, i release the EQ info FIRST on Twitter before elswhere
    by Veenie 6/13/2011 9:17:24 PM

  • @Veenie Very true! Estacion announced it as well. You're both better than USGS.

  • EVGS.

  • @Panserbjorne9 LOL!
    by LM 6/13/2011 9:19:13 PM

  • @Panserbjorne9 Oh, you got a new phone ?
    by Veenie 6/13/2011 9:19:15 PM

  • @veen no, usually on iPad. This is the phone, but I've been pushing from my work PC too
    by Panserbjorne9 6/13/2011 9:22:06 PM

  • by George Gibb 6/13/2011 9:34:43 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus That wouldn't explain 4 though since it has no pressure to release. #3 do they still have pressure in the RPV? I thought that went to atmosphere also but could be wrong. I remember containment went to atmosphere on the 20th of March. If the core is out of the RPV would they have a way to depressurize? Would they have a way to depressurize other than the vents that failed? I can't remember if they have some alternate functioning vent system.
    by lillymunster 6/13/2011 9:46:10 PM

  • @lillymunster : no pressure nowhere in the systems. all leaking.
by Edano edited by Edano 6/13/2011 9:47:25 PM

  • @Edano LOL ok well then we have fully vented systems. Vented everywhere all the time. ;-)
    by lillymunster 6/13/2011 9:48:53 PM

  • Either a cloud descends or a massive steaming even at Unit 4 : www.youtube.com Sorry if this is old news, but it was posted today and is today footage.

    by elainekirk 6/13/2011 10:10:41 PM

  • @Ian flying saucer ;)

    by elainekirk 6/13/2011 10:12:25 PM

  • @elainekirk The plot thickens. It might take me longer than I expected to go through all this information I've been digging concerning Kurion. It just struck me that former CIA Director James Woolsey joined the Kurion's owner Lux Capital on April 2011, that is after the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear accident. Some other familiar names are coming up. And I have found, on Kurion website, detailed information about how the filtering/decontaminating systems work and where they will be installed at Fukushima-Daiichi NPP. Maybe you could investigate that part because I'm going to focus my research on the links between Kurion and other nuclear industry firms and possibly CIA. www.kurion.com
by Pedro Jesus 6/13/2011 10:15:55 PM

  • in april, what a coincidence. i guess they needed money to produce sufficient of their magic media.
    by Edano 6/13/2011 10:18:41 PM

  • elaine.. I see one entry by George at 3:34
    by dean 6/13/2011 10:20:20 PM

  • Pedro, looks like your digging in .. it all had my wonderings up earlier today when I mentioned to lilly and elaine that we could check into it all
    by dean 6/13/2011 10:22:00 PM

  • @Edano Kurion and French AREVA walk hand in hand, as we can easily see by the info at Kurion's website. This filtering/decontaminating systems they are installing at Fukushima-Daiichi are part of a joint venture.

@dean I'll keep on digging and see where the rabbit hole leads to. I don't know why, I wasn't at all surprised to see a former CIA Director directly involved in all this, if only for the best reasons
    .
by Pedro Jesus 6/13/2011 10:24:42 PM

  • @pedro gosh you are doing some rooting out there :)
    by elainekirk 6/13/2011 10:28:11 PM

  • @dean : it was too obvious that a little startup company, that they seem, could never be the winner of the century.
