  • 74% of workers want to dump nuclear power www.asahi.com
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 9:58:25 PM

  • the nuclear spokesman said the magic work for me.. WE BELIEVE we can, WE'RE PRETTY SURE..... duh.. this isn't something you can JUST BELIEVE WE CAN... they better have all their ducks in a row for extended shortages etc.. in my opinion I would set a water level rize miles from there based on what I saw ahead of Calhoun and shut that reactor down and establish shutdown conditions, leave the fuel in the core and get the backup make up systems on line and testes to alert them of any problems... I would pull every procedure refering to flooding in the facility and compose a common procedure for flooding... Calhoun was blasted for not having anything more than a shot gun approach to flooding procedures..

  • time for a rest.. will return
    by dean 6/15/2011 10:01:52 PM

  • @lillymunster Funny... that's what most people probably assumed the IAEA was.
    by radioguy 6/15/2011 10:01:55 PM

  • @dean It's one kind of unpreparedness to foul up a surprise natuarl disaster, It is another thing entirely to watch nature coming at you for several weeks or even (in Calhoun case) MONTHS.
    by RBeaner 6/15/2011 10:02:55 PM

  • @dean Cooper was still running at 100% as of last night. They are also downstream from where the Platte river joins the Missouri IIRC. They seem to have no intention of shutting down unless forced to at the last minute. There are lots of purposeful vague statements going around. Nobody wants to state clearly where things are at.
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:03:03 PM

  • @RBeaner Yeah. It'a not like this is a surprise to anybody.
    by radioguy 6/15/2011 10:03:27 PM

  • @radioguy Silly me that is what I thought the IAEA did. Exactly what is it we pay the to do then?
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:03:44 PM

  • At least Cooper released some usable information www.nppd.com
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:04:43 PM

  • @lillymunster These figures are published in the latest IAEA Annual Report).

    IAEA Mission & Programmes
The IAEA's mission is guided by the interests and needs of Member States, strategic plans and the vision embodied in the IAEA Statute. Three main pillars - or areas of work - underpin the IAEA's mission: Safety and Security; Science and Technology; and Safeguards and Verification. I need google translate on this.. I think it says.. We have the interests of your betters at heart, our own intrests are our priority, and all else is confidential

  • @nancy notice how 3's buiding is all blown out but 4's the bit we can see is intact ?

    by elainekirk 6/15/2011 10:16:10 PM

  • @lillymunster yeah, but nothing has changed in 3 disastrous months. We are sitting here wondering about the true condition of Ft Calhoun or cooper. No Info method has changed.
    by RBeaner 6/15/2011 10:17:09 PM

  • @RBeaner I would love to see someone set up a TBS style cam on Ft. Calhoun so we can eye the flooding.
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:18:23 PM

  • @lillymunster Would be interesting, but even us "uber-superior" westerners have the same achilles heal as the east. Nuclear power can be fragile and destructive directly after being "durable" and constructive.
    by RBeaner 6/15/2011 10:22:09 PM

  • @all Ft calhoun, 4 hrs ago... What i see as sig is wat peoples response is to it. www.wowt.com
    by RBeaner 6/15/2011 10:25:33 PM

  • @RBeaner huh?
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:28:03 PM

  • @lillymunster "What i see as sig(nificant) is w(h)at peoples response is to it." This could be no big deal at calhoun, but the people (US) in this case need to look beyond what they are being told. They need to investigate on their own.

No. 2 unit at Fukushima Daiichi plant
Handout photo shows temporarily installed air ducts (L) for filtering the air inside the No. 2 reactor at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture on June 11, 2011. Tokyo Electric Power Co. began operating the ventilation equipment with filters to absorb radioactive materials to reduce radiation levels inside the reactor building on the same day. The image is not crisp because it was taken by a camera covered with a plastic bag. (Photo courtesy of TEPCO)(Kyodo) english.kyodonews.jp

Undated photo shows repaired parts (brown sections) of a recently installed radioactive water treatment system to remove highly radioactive materials from a massive amount of water accumulating at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture. Water leakage had been detected in the parts of the system which Tokyo Electric Power Co. said will start operating in full swing from June 16 or 17, 2011. • @Edano I wonder if they have wind tested these models or on a computer?
    by lillymunster 6/15/2011 10:44:27 PM

  • @Edano I have no idea how that shelter will stand up to a typhoon, but I assume they ( TEPCO Eng) have some basis for their beliefs.

    by Edano 6/15/2011 10:47:22 PM

  • @lillymunster I imagine they haven't wind-tested them, do you know how much time those kinds of things take. They are working with no ruler or measuring tape. Making it up as they go along
