The government has done next to nothing for areas destroyed by the Great East Japan Earthquake, says Tadashi Yanai, chairman and president of Fast Retailing Co., Operator of the Uniqlo fast fashion chain.
Question: How would you evaluate the Japanese government's handling of the rebuilding process in the aftermath of the March 11 quake?
Answer: I don't think the government has done a good job. Rubble has not been cleared in some of the affected areas, and relief money donated to support these areas has not even reached the evacuees, three months after the quake.

@panser ty :)

@Peter Melzer there were also workers who said there was white smoke at #1 right after the quake.
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:26:59 PM

@Peter Melzer #3 had the new shroud. #4 was being worked on. I think 1-2 were also done. I would have to go dig to find the actual schedule, not sure where I saved it. I remember reading something that they were considering running MOX in 1 at some point. That is disturbing.

@edano that is a great graphic
by elainekirk 6/16/2011 6:30:48 PM

@Edano interesting it goes so high when 4 explodes but not when 3 does?
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:32:34 PM

@Peter Melzer TEPCO was pretty good about doing press releases about "good news". The major earthquake improvements if they were done were not publicized. We have all those TEPCO documents over on the Simply Info site. I can't find the link.
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:35:07 PM

@Peter, found it.

@Edano, can you try to post the link to the page that first graphic was on. I can't link out through the image. I wanted to try to grab an uncompressed copy of the image
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:39:31 PM

@Veenie I put a news roundup on the web site this morning if you want to tweet any of it.
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:39:55 PM

@Peter Melzer Something else I noticed. When they built 5 & 6 they have extra outside beams going up the buildings. Like they knew by then the outer buildings at 1-4 were unstable.
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:40:41 PM

@veenie I have been out :) just tweeted it though :)

@Edano Are these the break through valves that have a membrane that bursts at a certain pressure?
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:49:28 PM

@Edano Same thing they put on all the old GE reactors?
by lillymunster 6/16/2011 6:54:18 PM

This bill in the US could be a big change in nuclear safety. I have to wonder if all the worry about the power plants in NE could be turned into support for this bill along with concerns about Fukushima and safety.
