yes radio.. I would say the fuku plants are running at low power...
by dean 7/23/2011 5:09:19 PM

hi elaine.. have they said 'WHY" the power outage?
by dean 7/23/2011 5:09:42 PM

@dean
Cause of Fukushima blackout identifiedThe operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant says the interruption on Friday of a system that cools one of the spent fuel pools was caused by the incorrect set-up of a circuit breaker.
A device that handles the transmission of power to reactors 3 and 4 malfunctioned shortly after 7 AM on Friday, shutting down the cooling system for the fuel pool of unit 3 as well as the water decontamination system.
Although the pool water temperature did not rise, it took about 8 and a half hours to put all the equipment back online.
Tokyo Electric Power Company said on Saturday that a circuit breaker had been mistakenly set up at one-third of the correct level, causing it to shut down prematurely.

Edano.. I would think by now after all the problems they would have an emergency diesel dedicated to backup power to the SFP cooling that would start on a moments notice and link in
by dean 7/23/2011 5:16:43 PM

in time the fuku plants systems that are still operating will be faced with needing preventive maintenance that would normally be performed routinely... I hope they are planning for back up systems during the times when those pumps etc need to be shutdown for maintenance
by dean 7/23/2011 5:18:50 PM

true Edano.. still in crisis management
by dean 7/23/2011 5:19:10 PM

maintenance programs and frequencies need to be re-established based on systems in operation... diesels running need maintenance.. it would consume a maintenance department just figuring out and scheduling... "if" they are running the systems to destruct they need to have back ups on site to swap out

nobody ever thought ahead in this disaster.

@dean the workers are asking for drink pouches with straw to wear under their protective gear as they cannot safetly drink whilst working but even with a tweet hashtag campaign being run they are still being ignored so a steady leccy supply must be well beyond hope they would have to spend money
by elainekirk 7/23/2011 5:21:47 PM

it is true radio.. it's difficult to watch and frustrating to those of us who have followed things so closely
by dean 7/23/2011 5:22:27 PM

a camel back water pack is so simple to get.. they would probably have volunteer companies to give them away
