  • @joniver apparently a random group of alcoholics they picked up at a farm store. Between the constant list of idiot failures at Calhoun the NRC has documented, this years river standoff and their photo gallery I am just livid. That plant generates a small amount of power, is way past its shut down date and it a massively high risk due to location. The NRC sees no reason to shut it down or even make them do something about their flood protection problem.

  • @lillymunster How far are you from the plant?

  • @lillymunster Stay on it.

  • @joniver about a 2 hr drive. We are downwind from this nightmare, thus my interest in it.
    by lillymunster 8/6/2011 8:49:47 PM

  • @lillymunster It's in all our interest but I understand your concern. The thought of graffiti scrawled on the walls of a nuclear power plant regardless of where shows of a definite lack of control within. It's frightening.
    This story needs light.

  • @joniver I want to do something with it. It needs to be in a situation where the NRC will be confronted with it very publicly so they can't brush it under the rug.

  • Orange goo baffles remote Alaska village : ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Leona Baldwin's husband saw it first, and she got on the marine radio to alert others in the remote Alaska village of Kivalina that a strange orange goo was sitting on top of the town's harbor.
The news attracted all the townspeople, anxious to get a gander of the phenomenon that covered much of the harbor and then began washing ashore Wednesday.
The next day it rained, and residents found the orange matter floating on top of the rain buckets they use to collect drinking water. It was also found on one roof, leading them to believe whatever it was, it was airborne, too. hosted.ap.org

Recent studies have shown that the uses of green algae are boundless. First, scientists at R.I.T. used algae to synthesize biofuel, and recently scientists at Northwestern University and Argonne National have found that freshwater algae can remove Strontium 90 from radioactive wastewater. These developments can significantly aid the future effort to clean up radioactive waste at the Fukushima Daichi Plant. Scientists discovered that the process begins when the green algae first absorb strontium, calcium and barium from water. The strontium and barium form crystals inside of each algae cell. The crystals remain inside the cells, but the algae filters out and excretes calcium and other minerals that may be present. The strontium is then isolated, and thus able to be treated.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Authorities say a mysterious orange-colored substance has washed up on the shores of a remote village in northwest Alaska.
Tests have been conducted on the substance on the surface of the water in Kivalina (KIV'-uh-LEE'-nuh). City Administrator Janet Mitchell told The Associated Press that the substance has also shown up in some residents' rain buckets. intuitivefred888.blogspot.com

  • Ban to visit Japan to meet disaster survivors

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon will visit Japan later on Sunday to meet disaster survivors and stress the importance of safety at nuclear power stations.

It will be the first time in about a year that Ban will come to Japan. He made a trip to Hiroshima and Nagasaki last year.

On Monday, Ban will go to Fukushima prefecture to directly deliver messages from the global community to survivors.

Earlier, he told reporters that he will express his respect to people who are striving to reconstruct the devastated areas, and tell them that there are strong bonds between Japan and the United Nations.

Ban is also scheduled to make a speech to stress the importance of ensuring the safety of nuclear plants. The United Nations will hold a summit-level meeting to discuss nuclear safety in September.

Ban will meet Prime Minister Naoto Kan to discuss nuclear issues. He is also expected to ask Kan to send Ground Self Defense Force troops on a peace keeping mission to South Sudan, which became independent last month.
