@Edano makes sense now
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 12:25:40 AM

thought for the night.. one would think that the presence of I-131 would dissipate since the I-131 production should have stopped...
by dean 8/17/2011 12:30:28 AM

@dean so something is still going...
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 12:35:36 AM

@dean at what stage does 131 stop I thought it was only in the initial event
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:39:43 AM

actually did you all see @majj's newscientist link ? it reads like propoganda from the industry and is factually incorrect
www.newscientist.comby elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:41:17 AM

well I-131 is a byproduct of the fission process and as we know decays to Xenon gas in 8 hours... so, assuming no more fissions there shouldn't be any reports about I-131 by now
by dean 8/17/2011 12:42:08 AM

but uranium is constantly fissioning ....
by Edano 8/17/2011 12:43:59 AM

another decay line is Cs131 -> J131 -> Xe131 if i remember correctly.
by Edano 8/17/2011 12:45:20 AM

@Edano @dean please keep talking it is helping me understand
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:46:01 AM

According to a report by the Japanese national broadcaster, NHK, around half of 1149 children tested in Fukushima prefecture have radioactive iodine in their thyroid glands. THIS statement to me isn't worded correctly unless they take a sample and put it in a detector to identify isotopes before it decays

@Edano.. I think Cs-131 decays to Xe-131
by dean 8/17/2011 12:57:38 AM

Cs-137 decays to Barium
by dean 8/17/2011 12:57:56 AM

@dean and Cs131 to J131
by Edano 8/17/2011 12:59:02 AM

@Edano - wrote this to preface your report. Is it ok, need rewording?
A series of significant anomalies were noticed in the TEPCO reactor data in recent weeks. When these anomalies were cross referenced against recent large quakes near the plant a concerning pattern appeared. Radiation, temperature and pressure readings show
a disturbing trend that indicates that melted fuel may be moving around. This set of information shows that there are concerns about the integrity of the concrete buildings. With reports of steam coming out of cracks in the ground and high radiation levels being found outside the reactor buildings these could be indicators of such damage.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:00:40 AM

@Vivre thanks for sharing that. I grabbed a copy to put in our research list.

www.radiologyinfo.org method to do the thyroid scans...
by dean 8/17/2011 1:03:34 AM

@dean and this is the newscientist repeating their nonsense effectively endorsing it !!
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:06:15 AM

@ Edano and @ lilly.. I suggest for consideration to change "moving around" to relocating
by dean 8/17/2011 1:06:28 AM

please, let's not forget that "therapeutical" J131 doses are much higher than inhaled doses in fuku and only given once, not continously. don't mix it up.
by Edano 8/17/2011 1:07:33 AM

consider using "that suggests" in lieu of that indicates..
by dean 8/17/2011 1:08:08 AM

that's true Edano agree
by dean 8/17/2011 1:08:27 AM

I would think that the receiving location for all of the harvested rice would have some sort of scan or check for emitting radiation
by dean 8/17/2011 1:10:54 AM

@dean @Majj I am afraid there is a worrysome factor to the rice tests, I saw a wife describing how they had to have a weight of rice in a container at home and the men came round to the houses and checked each farmers rice, it doesnt take much to see the 'get out' in that one
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:13:53 AM

@dean there was a problem with cow manure. They tested some at the farm and was high. They tested the co-mingled manure at a packaging facility and it was below the limit but radioactive because high rad manure was mixed with clean manure before they measured it. There were concerns expressed various places that something like this would happen with the rice.

Ohio gozaimasu all
by bo 8/17/2011 1:15:03 AM

@ Edano, I'm not an expert in the medical testing etc, only what I can read up on, I think in that article where they say the children had I-131 in their thyroids.. there isn't an I-131 detector ..
by dean 8/17/2011 1:15:39 AM

bo.. welcome.. glad to have you and your BEAM here
by dean 8/17/2011 1:15:54 AM

@bo good morning bo :)
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:15:56 AM

Hi Bo!
@all - I have Edano's technical write up on the quakes vs. corium on the group website. Find it here or on the main page of the site.
wp.meby lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:16:15 AM

@dean no, it's a gammacounter.
by Edano 8/17/2011 1:16:51 AM

@dean and i didn't write "that indicates" anywhere. :)
by Edano 8/17/2011 1:17:37 AM

right @ Edano, they inject and then count to determine as I understand it
by dean 8/17/2011 1:17:41 AM

@Majj this seems to be a big worry. It is just crazy to take what is a major food staple and make it untrustworthy due to govt. ineptitude.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:17:42 AM

oops... @ Edano
by dean 8/17/2011 1:17:59 AM

@dean LOL
by Edano 8/17/2011 1:18:33 AM

@ Edano.. I had a test one time where they injected a radiopharmaceutical to get a contrast,, one was barium and not sure what the one on the cat scan with image was
by dean 8/17/2011 1:19:51 AM

@ elaine.. black market rice,,, fills you up nice but side affects.. hmmmm
by dean 8/17/2011 1:20:38 AM

@dean i don't know what they injected when i had my coronar angiographies - i didn't ask.
