  • @dean yes,
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:49:02 PM

  • A few weeks ago, a guy in gov wrote a draft law which can restrict internet use, move, and all basic freedom.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:50:05 PM

  • at an emergency situation, like this.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:50:25 PM

  • @ikrockhopper is that law going to be passed?
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:50:39 PM

  • Apparently the previous order was not enough to stem the flow of negative news as Japan has passed allow that will allow police unrestricted access to monitor all Internet communications to crack down on the so-called rumors. Making matters worse, Japan has issued open bids for companies to monitor blogs and social media such as tweets to crack down on the information making its way around the internet.

    by dean 8/17/2011 12:50:52 PM

  • No, not yet. it's just a draft one guy put on the desk.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:51:04 PM

  • @ikrockhopper are any politicians fighting it?
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:51:42 PM

  • The original source of the links Dean posted. japanfocus.org

I remember when the current law was passed a few of our JP members were worried they would get in trouble for sharing information. I heard of this new one Rockhopper mentions. Supposedly some sort of "martial law" type action where they could do a major restriction of movement and communication if there is a disaster.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 12:52:33 PM

  • I don't think so... so far, the draft hasnt gone anywhere. politicians are busy to deal with the situation PM Kan resign.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:52:43 PM

  • @dean That examiner article is by Alexander Higgins. I skip anything on examiner because anyone can post anything there. There is no restriction or standards.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 12:53:19 PM

  • the examiner link has several bits of new information and reports of censorship and contractor requirements who monitor
    by dean 8/17/2011 12:53:23 PM

  • ty @lilly.. I will proceed with caution on that link
    by dean 8/17/2011 12:54:04 PM

  • As for steam, I don't think workers would feel offended if someone want to interview them. Sub-sub-sub... contract workers will like it. They should have many things to talk .
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:54:59 PM

  • @ikrockhopper that article it would be hard to make it up it fits with what we know doesnt it I see sunny is having much debate he tries hard to mediate
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:55:17 PM

  • @elainekirk yeah he does.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:56:01 PM

  • @ikrockhopper so awkward knowing what will help and what will harm
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:56:06 PM

  • departing for work.. will return.
    by dean 8/17/2011 12:56:50 PM

  • @elainekirk On twitter, as you see, most of the discussion is who is right and who is wrong. Tetu no oyome and I were talking on the phone before I came here, and we agreed that the worst thing for us is this battle with other japanese who believe different things.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:58:25 PM

  • @dean reading through it most of what he wrote was already known info. IE: that METI is hiring a PR squad to try to control info. I think what is happening is YouTube caves easily so they may be cooperating in the censorship. Other internet sites outside Japan likely won't be impacted. Japan's laws don't extend outside Japan. So on an international scale the law is toothless. It can cause issues with web content hosted and run in Japan.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 12:58:52 PM

  • Like my conversation with my co-workers.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 12:59:01 PM

  • @ikrockhopper yes it is and people naturally want to believe that everything is good it is hard to accept that the worst is true when you have an option
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 12:59:45 PM

  • @ikrockhopper that with your coworkers made me cry too
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:00:12 PM

  • @elainekirk option, and attitude. If one wants to deny something, s/he can believe something else, strongly, without evidence.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:00:56 PM

  • @elainekirk To complicate matters even more there is the total denial camp. The fearmongering sky is falling camp and everyone in the middle trying to figure out what is fact.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:01:01 PM

  • @lillymunster you are 200% right! the denial camp is so huge...
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:01:50 PM

  • @lillymunster and fear-mongers sell lots of crap
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:02:09 PM

  • @lillymunster I am just wondering if JP gov can do things like China gov does...
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:02:32 PM

  • to censor internet? China can stop access to certain sets of Chinese words.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:03:17 PM

  • @lillymunster @ikrockhopper I must go out now, I hope you sleep rockhopper do not go to sleep on that last thought cast it from your head
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:03:24 PM

  • @elainekirk Thank you! I will :) I just wanted to check about your question.
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:04:13 PM

  • @ikrockhopper it cannot be allowed to happen though #3 restarting is a kick in the teeth for people being heard and the children being ignored today soo infuriatingly sad
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:04:38 PM

  • see you all later GO TO SLEEP rockhopper that is an order
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 1:05:24 PM

  • @elainekirk Hokkaido people are so furious. And we feel so sad with Fukushima kids! I will, I will. I will go to sleep! See you soon!
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:05:51 PM

  • @ikrockhopper JP govt wouldn't be able to easily censor the internet. even China has a hard time and their systems were built to be monitored and censored.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:05:57 PM

  • Have a good night Rockhopper.

I'm out for a few. The dog is insisting on a walk.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 1:06:29 PM

  • @lillymunster Yeah, many Chinese actually use facebook and Twitter :)
    by ikrockhopper 8/17/2011 1:06:39 PM

  • Enjoy walking with your dog! see you soon! Thank you for your help!
