@elainekirk I think you are on to something. Real researched information getting yanked off Youtube. Meanwhile the looney unfounded stuff stays up? Maybe they consider the real researched info a bigger threat to their attempts to control information than they do the fringe stuff with no facts.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 7:50:03 PM

@Ian Would Youtube fork over whatever they were given as a complaint?
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 7:50:57 PM

it seems to me meti are working to protect the industry as the real 'fear and panic' stuff is being left alone so if that is true they are behaving like every other government.

@elainekirk yes, pretty much :-)

dont show ian it has the clip of explosion lol
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 8:03:44 PM

well, youtube is a private organisation, so they can show or not what they want. they don't even need a reason. there is no right to publish.
by Edano 8/17/2011 8:06:40 PM

@Edano this is an ongoing challenge with online content internationally. A patchwork of laws and big private websites like YouTube dominate the public attention so they have a big sway on things. Yet they are still a private business. They control the situation through such a huge brand name that the public sees them as the source for that "thing" much like eBay is dominant in online buying and selling by individuals. Ebay abuses their customers in much the same ways as YouTube does. It is one of the very sad things about the commercialization of the web.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 8:22:49 PM

@lillymunster yes i know and agree 100%. i think we need to establish alternative platforms esp in europe to confront the mighty us social media. we have still preserved here some forms of independent news platforms under public law, e.g. tv and radio channels. they are paid by general fees and are not allowed to show any form of commercials. japan has the same system with nhk. these companies under public law are made to provide information to the public that cannot be censored by commercial interests. we should establish internet platforms under this public law in order to ensure that information cannot be covered up. this must be done the earlier the better.
by Edano 8/17/2011 8:32:17 PM

@Edano I totally agree. More user created platforms that don't have a business interest need to happen. If Youtube is going to cause widespread issues maybe all the people producing content need to find a way to index and share content from disparate sources.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 8:36:26 PM

in germany it is called "Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts"
de.wikipedia.org but there is no english corresponding thing.
a part of it is the "Körperschaft des öffentlichen Rechts"
de.wikipedia.org there is an english coresponding called
"Statutory corporation" en.wikipedia.org or
"Public body " by Edano 8/17/2011 8:40:28 PM

@Edano we have public radio/tv in the US. It is constantly under attack by corporate interests that want it to go away.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 8:41:36 PM

@lillymunster is it independent from gov and parties ?
by Edano 8/17/2011 8:42:42 PM

@Edano funded by taxpayer dollars but is a separate company so govt can't tell them what to report or produce. Congress can impact their budget allocation. The GOP tried to completely defund public media earlier in the year.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 8:44:48 PM

but if we want independent platforms we have to ask how to finance it. a general fee would be quite unpopular and donations can undermine independence.
by Edano 8/17/2011 8:45:48 PM

@lillymunster yes, then it is comparable.

Daily Telegraph: TEPCO disregarded warnings abougt possible pipe failures years prior to #Fukushima
t.coby elainekirk 8/17/2011 8:49:21 PM

@Edano most projects that are user generated and run are based off of some sort of peer to peer or shared networking where the central interface or site simply acts as the directory and sends people all over to pull the content from. Some do it so seamlessly users just assume it is all done on the one site. With peer to peer and disparate resources the cost is minimal usually down to one web hosting account and a domain name.
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 9:00:01 PM

@Ian yes I read that one I just think if we can hype them all who cover this then we may encourage more coverage
by elainekirk 8/17/2011 9:05:16 PM

@lillymunster true, but you probably need a budget for public appearence and pr., if you want people to find it.
by Edano 8/17/2011 9:06:45 PM

... and at least a few employees (IT, webdesign).

www.tepco.co.jpby elainekirk 8/17/2011 9:14:24 PM

@Edano depending on how one wants to set it up and if they want to do marketing to try to get it to take off through more social ways. Some of the ones I have seen depended on volunteer teams to do the base start up work like the programming (the main hurdle). It would be an innovative approach to have a non-business do a major marketing push ...
by lillymunster 8/17/2011 9:16:15 PM

@elainekirk saved both into my TEPCO file that needs to be moved to the web server. Nothing earth shattering but good to keep a copy of in case TEPCO tries to rewrite history later or make some other claim on the water system hoping people forgot what they said months before.

@RadioGuy In Japan? US? I have noticed a few more articles this week talking about the US involvement with the sulfur found in La Jolla and michio kaku talking about international radiation exposure from the plant.
