  • Mostly from the financial publications, who have to be eying the economic implications of this very closely
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:10:19 PM

  • I'm still waiting for the August EPA tests to begin...
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:11:19 PM

  • @RadioGuy the financial papers are about the only ones paying attention. It does get hard to completely ignore going on 6 months of a catastrophic problem in a developed country.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 10:12:56 PM

  • It's no flood yet, but I think it's filtering in to the public a little bit that this thing is still going on and wasn't it supposed to be over a long time ago? That's the import of every single tiny little news story that comes out in the press right now. A flag that it's still going on.
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:13:28 PM

  • But what can you say about the whole "If we don't test we won't know and don't have to tell anybody" mentality of this? It's rampant denial of the weirdest sort.
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:16:23 PM

  • @lillymunster BTW... great work on Hanford.
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:17:08 PM

  • @RadioGuy I still have no idea of the fallout in my area. We have zero testing of any kind by the EPA.
Thanks, I am hoping it can provide some understanding for people dealing with the mess in Japan and maybe clue in some of the people in the US about what really was going on here at home. Trying to think of ways to use that to pull in some people who thought Fuku was over.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 10:19:35 PM

  • @lillymunster At least we've had numbers here from BerkeleyNUC (iffy as they may or may not be...hard to tell sometimes) but I think we're coming up on an AHA moment here: harvest time.
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:23:13 PM

  • It sure would be nice to be able to get some good independent testing done for growing areas around some of those US hotspots. In fact, given that we just had a major nuclear disaster (by any criteria you choose), wouldn't you think this would be a good year to spot test everything?
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:25:15 PM

  • @RadioGuy I would love to get a safecast style set of soil, food, water testing done. I never was able to get an email back from that lab. Maybe I need to call them. Supposedly safecast has something going in the US but I have not looked into it. I did notice Berkeley did mention about the build up of longer lived isotopes.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 10:31:30 PM

  • @lillymunster do you have this Hanford doc? www.epa.gov
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 10:31:58 PM

  • @lillymunster Mostly I think it's just an occupational hazard. If you work around radioactivity, you don't think of it in quite the way. My take tends to be "But I don't want ANY radioactive cesium in my milk, tyvm."
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:38:46 PM

  • @elainekirk I do now. :-)

An honest independent survey of known hot spots in the US would be interesting and if they are worse than expected a PR nightmare for the EPA.

  • Hello
I posted the following on the other board - but maybe it even fits better in here as for the previous conversation.

sorry to hear about the encreasing suppression on YT - even a commenting-sentence :(((
The first time I experienced something like it was when all Alex's (playbacklapompe) anual (2011) videos had been removed.

Several of his videos are mirrored by other users. (I collected a small list from the commentings but stopped doing this when he returned back after some days)

Now for Leakspinner I did a search and found some videos via: http://wn.com/leakspinner?upload_time=all_time&orderby=relevance

Then I stumbled upon this page on channels.com where at least maybe near to the whole list of his contributions are listed. Of course those links are likley 'dead' but at least it gives an overview and a good chance to find some of them by searching them by their titles.

    www.channels.com

I'll copy the listing and see if what I can findout more.

btw: his last video quotes "06/08/2011 More video to come" - so it's quite unlikely that he was up to quit his account

  • @lillymunster So, that 3-month testing moratorium will just end up as still more extend and pretend fodder.
    by RadioGuy 8/17/2011 10:42:31 PM

  • @lillymunster I am watching out for one
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 10:42:38 PM

  • @RadioGuy I am wondering if the EPA will even do the testing or just hope everyone forgets.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 10:47:20 PM

  • @lillymunster a university student team could easily start up a non profit media platform ....
    by Edano 8/17/2011 10:55:23 PM

  • @lillymunster I think I will stop looking or I will have nightmares www.epa.gov
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 11:07:30 PM

  • @elainekirk I laughed in disbelief. Who on earth thought putting uranium scrap into sidewalks and city lots was a good idea?
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 11:12:36 PM

  • @lillymunster I developed a strange twitch that is still twitching
    by elainekirk 8/17/2011 11:13:48 PM

  • THROUGHOUT THE OPERATING PERIOD, TAILINGS FROM THE MONTICELLO MILLSITE WERE WIND-BLOWN INTO THE
CITY OF MONTICELLO OR USED IN THE CITY OF MONTICELLO FOR CONSTRUCTION. THESE TAILINGS WERE USED
AS FILL FOR OPEN LANDS; AS BACKFILL AROUND WATER, SEWER, AND ELECTRICAL LINES; AS SUB-BASE FOR
DRIVEWAYS, SIDEWALKS, AND CONCRETE SLABS; AS BACKFILL AGAINST BASEMENT FOUNDATIONS; AND AS SAND
MIX IN CONCRETE, PLASTER AND MORTAR.

I can't imagine what someone's backyard garden would be like if the lot was backfilled with that junk.
    by lillymunster 8/17/2011 11:14:45 PM

  • @lillymunster yes can just imagine someone buying a microwave tester and the thing going barmy
