  • Ob_Li was kind enough to translate the articles that talked about tellerium vs. iodine 131.
Inner radiation exposure level for the Fukushima residents in sever contamination area, caused by the radiation leakage from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant in March and consuming contaminated food/water, was the level of advised to take potassium iodine for inner radiation exposure prevention.

Although the Japanese didn't provide the potassium iodine for the residents in sever contamination area right after the nuclear reactor explosion, Nuclear Safety Committee advisory member Dr. Gen Suzuki pointed out that the residents in sever contamination area should have taken potassium iodine at least once on August 27,2011 at the radiation leakage accident medical analysis research meeting in Saitama prefecture.

Based on the test result of radiation exposure on March 17 & 18, more than 40% of the residents exceeded the radiation exposure level who should have taken the potassium iodine for further inner radiation exposure prevention.

Radioactive iodine has tendency to accumulate around thyroid grand, radioactive iodine 131(half-life 8 days) was the only thing to be anticipated, Professor Yoshio Hosoi of Hiroshima Univ. claimed to take it to the consideration of shorter life time iodine 132(half time 2 hours). Based on the analysis of the radiation leakage in the air on March 16, 2011, 70% of the radiation was iodine 132 and other radioactive which transforms to iodine 132 in 3 days.

  • @elainekirk Yes. Talking with Dean last night the tellerium (i-132) comment may be off base also. It has very short half life.

  • Fukushima No. 4 unit explosion caused by hydrogen leak from No. 3: Tokyo Electric Power Co. has found evidence that the March 15 explosion at its Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power
When it measured on Thursday the radiation levels of filters of exhaust pipes from the No. 4 and the No. 3 unit before a common exhaust stack, the utility found evidence indicating radioactive steam and hydrogen had flown into the No. 4 reactor building, in an opposite flow from usual, the utility officials said.
The radiation was 6.7 millisieverts per hour near the junction but fell to 0.5 millisievert and 0.1 millisievert at the approach to the building, they said. mdn.mainichi.jp

by Majj via Tropicalstormrisk 8/29/2011 2:54:15 PM

  • @Majj how accurate is that prediction at this point? Does it still have the possibility to veer off another direction or is it pretty sure path now?
    by lillymunster 8/29/2011 2:58:03 PM

  • @lillymunster Nothing is definitive on weather. This is pretty much it , he can and I believe it will , turn more NW. They normal do , following the coast line . No one cam predict more than 48 hours .
    by Majj 8/29/2011 3:03:54 PM

  • @Majj Thanks. I will write something up for the website that it is a possibility and then we can add updates.
    by lillymunster 8/29/2011 3:04:46 PM

  • @lillymunster Part of the lasted advisory ....there is increased confidence in the current position and motion and good evidence that the system has started to turn
    northwestward.... :-)))))))))))))))))))
    by Majj 8/29/2011 3:08:51 PM

  • @Majj :-) Hope they have everything tied down at the plant then.
    by lillymunster 8/29/2011 3:09:27 PM

  • @lillymunster yes they had 5 month now to prepare. But is better if Talas turn NW and send only some rain. IT is interest to see data on sea water contamination prior and after the cyclone . Last time we saw it rise and there was 2 theory ! rain on the plant ,get contaminate and lick to the see. @ the waves shake the contamination from the bottom of the sea and it float in the coast again...
    by Majj 8/29/2011 3:15:40 PM

  • @Majj hadn't thought of that. Would be interesting to see readings after.

  • Fillon Says France Wants Nuclear Crisis Management Center : France wants an international nuclear-crisis management center that could deploy experts and specialized equipment to the scene of an atomic accident like that in Fukushima, Japan, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said.
“We want cooperation to go further,” Fillon said today during a visit to Electricite de France SA’s Bugey reactor in eastern France.
The country is also pushing for an international training center for atomic crisis management and ways to cooperate on atomic oversight and norms, he said. www.bloomberg.com

by Peter Melzer 8/29/2011 4:13:58 PM

  • this is the late release 3pm on 28th Daini released 29th www.tepco.co.jp
    Underlined are new matters>
○Investigation of reactor containment vessel of unit 4 and inside
    facilities
At 10:15 am on 29th August, in order to investigate soundness of
reactor containment vessel of unit 4 and inside facilities, we have
opened airlock for site workers (hatch to enter into the primary
containment vessel), and we started investigation.
We are planning the same investigation of Unit 1 to 3.

○Poor physical condition of a site worker of co-operating company
On 29th August, in the heater building*1 of unit 4, condition of a
site worker of co-operating company who was in charge of rerouting of
temporary cable was getting worse, at around 10:50 am, and as heat
stroke was anticipated, we treated drip infusion and at 11:26 am
transferred to J-village by our ambulance.
At 11:58 am, patient was transferred to Iwaki Kyoritu Hospital by
    ambulance.
It is under medical treatment in the hospital.
No radioactive material attached to the body was found.

    *1 Heat exchanger building
The building in which the heat exchanger is installed. The heat
exchanger is the facility for carrying out heat exchange of the
cooling water of the facility used in reactor containment vessel,
turbine building and centralized waste treatment facility. (Non-
    Controlled Area)
    please remember this is Daiini
    by elainekirk 8/29/2011 4:14:03 PM

  • "No radioactive material attached to the body was found."
He was undoubtedly decontaminated leaving the plant, right. We'll await the results of the body scan for internal. Bets when that info will be forthcoming?
