TEPCO to sell 280 properties to raise 200 bil. yen for compensationTOKYO, Sept. 16, Kyodo
Tokyo Electric Power Co. aims to sell 280 real estate properties to raise 200 billion yen for use paying compensation payments for damage caused by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant crisis, sources close to the matter said Friday.
The properties include its headquarters building in central Tokyo, company dormitories and recreation facilities, according to the sources.
TEPCO intends to double its property sales target from 100 billion yen planned in May as it urgently needs to raise funds for full-fledged compensation payments from October, and for expanding fossil power generation to cover nuclear power generation capacity losses, they said.

@elainekirk they say it as a hypothetical and not actually happening. If reeba stops by we should ask if he has other info.

@elainekirk @lillymunster unfounded rumors ?
by Edano 9/16/2011 11:41:27 AM

@Edano they are really hard up for cash, the real estate prices in Japan are supposedly really low.

@Edano unless we find something else, seems so.

ah, here is an interpretation of the tepco doc:
Most core detectors found damaged at Fukushima No. 1 reactorTOKYO, Sept. 16, Kyodo
Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Friday most of the detectors lying below the pressure vessel at the No. 1 reactor of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant that check the condition of the control rods have been found damaged.
The damage -- mostly burnt wiring or electrical shortages -- is believed to have been caused by the intense heat in the wake of a core meltdown.
The utility conducted current tests on the detectors, which each cover 97 control rods, and found only one detector functioned normally, it said.

@elainekirk I have had the feeling something is up or there is something missing for the last 3 days and can't put my finger on it. Maybe it is just the odd flood of info?

Hi Dean!

Looking at the employee radiation doses, the March workers were most of the large doses. Makes me worry about the Tokyo Fire Dept firefighters and SDF soldiers. They were all in the middle of this mess during the first weeks.

by dean 9/16/2011 1:09:35 PM

@dean :-) I think something is up at the plant. Edano found high rad readings in the torus on #3. TEPCO is testing containment isotope mixtures and did some testing of the control rod systems to see what is left. They seem to be trying to determine where the corium is but don't quite come out and say it completely. Yesterday they changed the watering at 2 to try to direct water the corium more but then said they are not sure where it is.
by lillymunster 9/16/2011 1:13:58 PM

I can find some of the document links in question if you want to take a look.
by lillymunster 9/16/2011 1:14:17 PM

@ LILLY .. I would like to check it out
by dean 9/16/2011 1:19:20 PM

@ lilly .. do they say how they are testing the containment isotope mixtures? I'm also wondering how they could test the control rod system as well. I cannot fathom they trying to "drive" the control rods which would be a mistake as they don't know the details of the core and it could dislodge corium.

by elainekirk 9/16/2011 1:40:36 PM

@Edano - I updated the Reactor stats and graphs pages on the website to include a link back to the website and the new image header. I checked and they seem to be working correctly. Give them a look and let me know if anything is not working properly that I might have missed.
by lillymunster 9/16/2011 1:42:38 PM

@elainekirk I think it is talking about the required reporting of incidents but not 100% sure. It might have some relation to the emergency manuals they are refusing to cough up. If we find an english version it would be good to check the translation vs. their english to make sure what it really refers to.
by lillymunster 9/16/2011 1:45:13 PM

All the things going on now make me think we are hitting a new mode with things. The new government seems intent on some large changes and this may play a small part in TEPCO's new behavior. TEPCO has also been suddenly dumping documents and in the past that has meant something. Either a big bombshell admission or they are pretexting for some action they are going to take.
They are also changing the kind of testing and actions taken. Changing watering, these control rod tests, admission they don't know where 2's corium is. I think all this means something. But what it is we don't quite know but I think we can figure it out.
There are also new bits on the contamination popping up. Plutonium found far from the plant in the NW corridor of fallout, americium in Tokyo and Greenpeace taking samples in the exclusion zone.
All of this seems to be pieces of a bigger puzzle.
by lillymunster 9/16/2011 1:49:25 PM

Another random WTH? "At 11:08 am on September 14, we stopped the operation of cooling
facilities of common pool because the common pool power center will be
moved with the replace of power panel located at the basement of the
spent fuel common pool's building"
Why is the power panel for the common pool in the basement? That is a newer building.. This could explain the steam and late night panic seen over around the common pool building in recent months. If the basement of that building was filling up with water as the mentioned and now they are moving the panel sounds like that was a problem.
