  • Wow, this forum is becoming like the Busy Hate Club. But I've found some evidence that calcium does protect against strontium-90 uptake, as for example here www.jstor.org . There are several other studies lacking abstracts form the 60s and 70s such as pubmed.com The titles suggest efficacy or at least that there was something that caught the repeated attention of researchers. And it makes sense since Sr90 is taken up by bone due to its similarity to calcium. Therefore, a priori we can hypothesize that free calcium could displace free Sr90. So while the his selling supplements does not look good, I'm dubious about the accuracy of the "snake oil" charge.

  • @dean my daughter has about 6shots a day I really enjoy it when in public I whip out the syringe pen , load it shoot test then fire , if I feel really mean I 'accindentally aim the priming shot at a convenient gawker
    by elainekirk 9/22/2011 12:58:37 AM

  • @dean they described the fabric as being either a poly or a nylon and didn't explain further. There are outdoor fabrics used for commercial awnings and shade structures that is fairly strong but even those usually can't handle really high winds. I think the portion by the garage door entrance of the reactor retracts in some manner so it is a weak point. It doesn't have the framework like the rest of the panels.

  • Cranes have moved a bit, they are doing something.
    by lillymunster 9/22/2011 1:02:03 AM

  • And now the update on unit 3:
"For Unit 3, as of August 31, water injection has been carried out with the amount of water about 7.0m3/h … Temperature of the bottom of the RPV has … stayed under 120°C, and the reactor has been … cooled sufficiently by reactor water injection system (Figure II-2-33). In Unit 3, on July 14, the injection of nitrogen into the PCV was started (Figure II-2-34), and it is still ongoing as of August 31."
    by Peter 9/22/2011 1:02:59 AM

  • # Peter,, when I calculated the flow rate in gpm it seemed so miniscule that I don't even think it would get much spray action at all.. more like a dribble
    by dean 9/22/2011 1:08:17 AM

  • In conclusion they keep injecting nitrogen into the three PCV and water into the RPVs, at twice the rate in unit 3 as in the other two units. Temps measured at the bottom of the RPV of units 2 and 3 remain above 100°C.

  • i need some rest.. be back in awhile
    by dean 9/22/2011 1:12:00 AM

  • @dean , that is between three and a half and seven bathtubs worth of water per hour. I remember an RPV needs about 500 cubic meters to be filled. Tepco claims that what they add "exceeds the amount of water injection equivalent to decay heat." Strange, isn't it?
    by Peter 9/22/2011 1:15:23 AM

  • No wonder that "reactor water level was - 5m or less from the TAF."

    by elainekirk 9/22/2011 1:58:40 AM

  • @elainekirk Either the legs sunk or something blew hard enough to get it aloft and tip. There are the remains of a few outbuildings it could have caught on as it went over. Darn lucky something worse didn't happen. Put the vid on the group website

  • @lillymunster , looks like a pulley cable snapped. First I thought the operator brought the boom down to protect it from the wind. He would not through it on a building though.
    by Peter 9/22/2011 2:04:11 AM

  • We've seen that broken in the middle config before, and seen it pull back up from it. They might have dropped it into that position to keep it from getting broken?
    by RadioGuy 9/22/2011 2:09:15 AM

    by smoss 9/22/2011 2:17:36 AM

  • but the cam went off then it came back for awhile before going again so if the crane went down during the 'back on' spell it would explain the long down time after
    by elainekirk 9/22/2011 2:18:27 AM

  • teppycam went of <12.39pm bst and was on again at 2.18pm bst then went again sometime after that and came back not long ago it is 3.22 am bst now so you could probably work it out from those times
