3 lower house lawmakers' PCs infected with virusTOKYO, Oct. 25, Kyodo
Personal computers used by three members of Japan's House of Representatives for their official duties have been found infected with a computer virus, lower house officials said Tuesday.
The lower chamber's Rules and Administration Committee set up a task force on the matter within the house's secretariat Tuesday and decided to urge lawmakers to change their passwords for access to the house's computer server.
The officials said the server has been isolated from the lower house's computer network as it may also have been infected with the virus.

Noda enjoyed loach soup in Seoul on Tuesday nightTOKYO, Oct. 19, Kyodo
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda enjoyed the taste of loach soup Tuesday night in Seoul as the nutritious South Korean dish was specially ordered for dinner at a posh barbecue restaurant.
''It was good,''
Noda, who compared himself to a loach in a speech during the ruling Democratic Party of Japan's presidential election in late August, told reporters Wednesday as he left a hotel in Seoul to head back to Tokyo.
Noda, who held talks with South Korean President Lee Myung Bak earlier Wednesday, had said in an interview with the South Korean daily JoongAng Ilbo on Monday that he wanted to try loach soup during his two-day stay in Seoul.
Although loach soup, called ''chueotang'' in Korean, was not on the menu at the restaurant, it was ordered in advance, according to the restaurant. The soup was served after Noda and his aides ate Korean barbecue dishes and drank Korean rice wine, it said.
Yonhap News Agency reported Wednesday, citing a South Korean presidential office source, that Lee asked Noda during their meeting that a loach dish be served when he visits Japan.
Lee said to Noda that he did not know there was loach soup in Japanese cuisine as well, and the Japanese premier responded that he will welcome the South Korean president to Japan with numerous dishes, including loach soup, according to the report.

With Noda as PM, Loach Hot Pot, Anyone?
....
Although a fan of the delicacy, Mr. Ishikawa seemed perplexed as to why the new prime minister would want to compare himself to the humble loach: “I wonder what he meant?” said Mr. Ishikawa. “To be honest, I have no idea.”

"Japan’s prime minister admits he is no Mr Charisma—Yoshihiko Noda likens himself to a marine bottom-feeder rather than a glittering goldfish. But that, he says, is his appeal"

During his speech, Noda described himself as a loach--a freshwater bottom fish living in paddy fields and wetlands--and stressed his down-to-earth approach in politics to win the hearts of DPJ lawmakers. "There are things only a loach can do," Noda said.
....
According to sources close to Noda, his loach remarks were inspired by the writing of Mitsuo Aida, a calligrapher and poet, which was introduced to him by Koshiishi. Koshiishi is known for his close relationship with former DPJ President Ichiro Ozawa.

okay, now we know it. noda IS a poet. or - he just looked into the mirror for the first time.

New PM Noda, the Farm Boy, Tries to Unify Party and Steer Japan.....
He has compared himself to a loach fish. This necessitated the wrier taking a visit to the animal world websites for a description of the species. Here are two paragraphs describing the Dojo or Japanese Loach:
"This remarkable fish is quite hardy and adaptable, very easy to care for. They wiggle about in an eel like fashion scavenging the bottom of the sea for leftover bits of food, even munching on snails. They also like to dig and burrow into the substrate, often burying themselves.
"The Dojo Loach or Weather Loach makes an excellent community fish with other non-aggressive tank mates. They love to socialize with other fish and loaches, sometimes resting with them or sometimes chasing them about, but they don't hurt them."

japanese news is quite odd. there are hula girls, lolita girls, boy groups and girl groups with numbers instead of letters in their names, lots of pokemons and other stuff you have never heard of, and strange types of sports. and a lot about robots that e.g. help you tying shoes. and sometimes the emperor's family. this will not appear so strange to our british scribblers (same with the sports types).

i had a lot of loaches in my childhood aquarium. i liked them, they were very cute, though i never tried them. they always cleaned the stones and the sand and the plants, you could never have enough of them. so it could be a good idea to use them for decontamination.

I thought maybe they actually came up with a contamination cleaning fish. :-) Our pleco could probably do it. He was about 2inches long when we bought it, about 12+ inches now. Don't want to know how big he would get in the wild. :-)

I think the Diet needs more computer techs on staff, or mandatory password changes. They have similar problems in Congress, they keep putting white-out on the screen to fix their typing errors.

Mainichi on the TEPCO emergency manuals
The manual revealed the fact that there was no operational manual that envisioned a loss of all power sources needed to activate emergency condensers and back-up water injection devices to cool down nuclear reactors. The revelation highlights flaws in TEPCO's contingency plan in the event of a loss of power sources.

@Edano they toyed with the idea of hydrogen cars here. The issue was getting enough refueling stations.

@Edano Every time they try a pilot program in California this comes up. Not enough refueling or recharging stations. Have not heard more since the economy tanked. The electric car program in CA was purposely killed off by the automakers.

@Edano some were very early efforts and didn't properly take wind behavior into account. There was one that was put right in the path of a large bird migration corridor. These get used to claim wind power won't work frequently in the US.

ENENews has more on the concerns at units 5-6. There may be something to this. TEPCO out of the blue did underwater video of the intakes and pump systems for them two days ago. This report also shows cesium leaking out of the intakes.

by dean 10/25/2011 1:20:04 PM

@dean TEPCO did video of the intakes earlier this week for 5-6. It sounds like maybe some sort of small water leak? That would explain the slightly lowered water level and isotopes in the water if they were not there before?

lilly .. link with an interview
by dean 10/25/2011 1:25:40 PM

@lilly.. I was thinking that the video of the intakes were to examine the pump impellar housings and status of the piping, at least that was what I saw but there could be more. I would have to think on how they would find elevated isotope levels at the intakes unless some series of valves were left open and other failures that caused back flow of water....
