    (Tsushima junior high school)
The monitorinig place is 32 km from Fukushima Nuclear power plant. And the road closed point of Route 114.
The whole Namie town is "Evacuation zone". All the habitants left here.
The monitor indicates 5.81 micro Sievert per hour in air at chest hight, 65.17 on road side sand, ground level.
Measuring instrument is made of Ukraine, ECOTEST MKS-05.

  • Edano has a good point, without nuclear weapons the desire to have nuclear power drops considerably. The discussion yesterday about spent fuel being key to ending commercial nuclear power I really think this is the way to do it. It is the mechanism that California is using for the ballot issue they are trying to get signatures for right now. It prevents the 2 plants from running until they permanently deal with and find a long term storage site for their spent fuel. It is the one problem the nuclear industry really can't explain away and cask storage in their parking lots is not a solution the public will buy.

  • I ran across this looking for something else. Atlantic interviews with Fukushima plant workers that were on site during the quake. They were all talking about ruptured pipes and hissing pipes. This may be that factor about why the cooling efforts at 1 didn't work www.theatlanticwire.com
    by lillymunster 11/26/2011 4:17:54 PM

  • But I was severely alarmed because as I was leaving I was told and I could see that several pipes had cracked open, including what I believe were cold water supply pipes. That would mean that coolant couldn’t get to the reactor core. If you can’t sufficiently get the coolant to the core, it melts down. You don’t have to have to be a nuclear scientist to figure that out.”

As he was heading to his car, he could see the walls of the reactor one building itself had already started to collapse. “There were holes in them

After the second shockwave hit, I heard a loud explosion that was almost deafening. I looked out the window and I could see white smoke coming from reactor one. I thought to myself, ‘this is the end.’”

When the worker got to the office five to 15 minutes later the supervisor ordered them all to evacuate, explaining, “there’s been an explosion of some gas tanks in reactor one, probably the oxygen tanks. In addition to this there has been some structural damage, pipes have burst, meltdown is possible
    by lillymunster 11/26/2011 4:20:40 PM

  • Does anyone know the purpose of oxygen tanks in the reactor building?
    by lillymunster 11/26/2011 4:22:56 PM

  • I'm assuming the oxygen tanks are a back-up to the respirators. In this account of the 50 brave workers at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant..."they breathe through respirators or carry heavy oxygen tanks on their backs..." factsand details.com/japan.php?itemid=1666&catid=23&subcatid=152 This is a great article to read, personal accounts of the workers, links and videos.
    by MaryW 11/26/2011 4:49:59 PM

  • by MaryW 11/26/2011 4:51:58 PM

  • @MaryW would personal oxygen tanks be stored in the reactor buildings? I don't remember a systems oxygen tank but that doesn't mean there isn't one. The Atlantic article is a good reminder of all the other things going on that TEPCO and the govt. just sweep under the rug. I had forgotten about the details in that article. They mention wall damage to unit 1. That fits well with Elaine's find of the big ground fissure next to 1. Broken or cracked pipes in 1 makes sense with the cooling systems not working and one worker said a cold water delivery pipe was either broken or cracked in unit 1.

(※ is not the military to Tuesday)

In the years after the accident, such as health care and evacuation of residents immediately after the accident, which aims to create a framework and implementation of new international standards. Red Cross around the country next spring holding the primary, will hold the first international conference in Japan.

The Japanese Red Cross Society, proposed by the General Assembly on the 25th. Red Cross Ukraine has been working for 25 years to aid victims of the Chernobyl accident, "The nuclear accident, we need information about the truth you can trust. In one country the problem is not resolved" to support it, saying, International Committee Red Cross Committee (ICRC) also expressed their cooperation.

Attorneys near China, and sought the cooperation talks separately with representatives of leading countries possessing nuclear power and France. Have shown a strong interest in the Korean National Red Cross and other Southeast Asian countries.

  • Gov't to consider scrapping of Monju reactor as option: Hosono

    TSURUGA, Japan, Nov. 26, Kyodo

The Japanese government will consider scrapping the Monju prototype fast-breeder reactor as one of its options in reviewing the trouble-plagued nuclear facility's operation, nuclear disaster minister Goshi Hosono said Saturday.

Hosono made the remark after visiting the facility in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, for which ruling Democratic Party of Japan lawmakers and private-sector experts proposed a thorough operational and budgetary review in the government's energy policy screening session earlier in the week.

''There are various opinions and (the government) should consider them including such a possibility,'' Hosono told reporters when asked if the government would mull decommissioning the reactor. english.kyodonews.jp
