  • english.kyodonews.jp People remain afraid of returning to homes near Fukushima plant
    FUKUSHIMA, Japan, Dec. 16, Kyodo

People who were evacuated from their residences near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant remain concerned about the huge obstacles to their returning home despite the government's declaration Friday that the nuclear crisis has been brought under control nine months after its outbreak.

Taisuke Hori, 27, who has fled to Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, said, ''I don't think we will return.'' His home is located in a no-entry zone set within a 20-kilometer radius of the Fukushima plant damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

''I doubt if kids can live safely without concerns no matter how thoroughly the local tracts of land are cleaned up,'' said Hori, who has children aged 6, 2 and less than one.

  • Sounds like they have been playing water whack-a-mole again. Lots of moving water in and out of unit 3's condensate storage tank. This was the only new item.
At 9:10 am on December 15, a cooperative firm worker discovered the burnt
trace in the distribution panel at Centralized Waste Treatment Facility
(Miscellaneous Solid Waste Volume Reduction Treatment Building [High
Temperature Incinerator Building]). But a smoke was not found. We
reported the incident to the fire station at 9:19 am on the same day. At
10:28, we stopped power supply to the distribution panel. Afterwards, as
the result of confirmation at the site of this facility by fire station,
it is considered that the fire was not occurred. At 2:30 pm, we resumed
power supply to the distribution panel.
    - At 11:38 am on December 16, as we found that there was high vibration at
desalination plant (RO) unit 2-2 high pressure pomp, we manually stopped
the desalination plant. We confirmed that there is no water leakage at
    the site.
We will study on its countermeasure later. On the other hand,
desalination plant (RO) unit 2-1 is in operation. And water injection to
the Reactors will not be affected since the cooling is continued by using
processed water in the buffer tank. www.tepco.co.jp

    +++ Fukushima-Chef Yoshida an Krebs erkrankt +++

Noda said at a press conference, a "great fear factor" had been eliminated. He apologized for the nation and around the world to have worries. Now it is up contaminated areas decontaminated, checks the health of citizens and compensation shall be paid. They would seek that those affected zurückkönnten as soon as possible to their homes. But many people have doubts on the testimony of the government.

    + + + Fukushima boss Yoshida ill with cancer + + +

According to their definition of the nuclear operator Tepco and the cold shutdown is achieved because the temperature is kept at the bottom of the pressure vessel at 100 degrees. Experts and environmentalists accuse the government but from a wrong use of the technical concept of cold shutdown, which was coined for the normal operation of power plants.

"To speak of cold shutdown borders on a deliberate lie," said Reinhard Uhrig, nuclear expert at Global 2000. The molten fuel would have burned through the bottom of pressure vessel and now lay in a lump at the bottom of the casing. There they remained at temperatures of approximately 3000 degrees. From a safe condition, the reactors are still far away.

  • @Edano , as to Yoshida's esophageal cancer, an oncologist told me the possible cause can be narrowed by location. If the tumor is located in the upper aspect of the esophagus it may be associated with chewing or smoking tobacco, for example. If it is located in the lower aspect, the tumor is more likely associated with reflux caused by fatty foods or unabating stress.

  • I thought of something. With modern tools and the genomes of many simple, fast-replicating organisms like E.coli and yeast known, it should be feasible to expediently evaluate possible changes in mutation rate of some radiation-sensitive organisms that thrive around the plant. The information may provide more insight into the impact of ionizing radiation than the surveys with dosimeters they are trying to carry out.

    I’m at Moscow right now.
Because the staff wrote “gate34″ on my ticket ,as saying “gate24″ ,I’m kinda lost now.
The flight schedule is “1911″ ,not “2011″ for some reason.

It’s as difficult as finding a creature in siberia to find a nice clerk at this airport.

A nice passenger told me where I can use wifi so I managed to find out where I am now.

The flight was ok. The airplane was maybe older than me ,but the pilot did a good job.
    Staff was professional.
They spoke Russian ,English ,and Japanese but Russian was the easiest for me to catch.

The guys behind me kept on talking for 11 hours non-stop as far as I remember.
The man sitting next next to me seemed to be a Japanese business man. I saw him trying to calm down every time the guys behind us kicked and punched the seat. That was more entertaining than the movie on 16 inch screen in front of us,which was “Home Alone.”

I could choose food ,”fish or not fish”. I think I chose “not fish” lunch ,but it was fish and rice.
    Everything is so confusing here.
