  • Nuclear Energy: Nationalize the Fukushima Daiichi Atomic Plant?? I was saying to INTERNATIONALIZE the plant from day one. Do we trust the Japanese government any more than TEPCO? I don't think Kan would have announced "cold shutdown" with a straight face.

  • @MaryW, oh yeah, I did see a Japanese version on youtube. But' I've lost track, probably the fuku-dairy link to it.
It might be worth doing a simplyinfo report on this NHK program if only to help people in Japan see it, or whatever we can do to help people in Japan see it.

  • @Ian page on NHK about the news piece, translates via google trans www.nhk.or.jp

  • @Ian It would help if any or all media would see it. I working on it.

  • @all Elaine and I put together some info on ICRP the organization a while back. I have the file if anyone wants it for research. It showed what groups fund the ICRP and how much. The get LOTS of money from the NRC and other nuke agencies around the world
    by lillymunster 12/31/2011 2:35:06 AM

  • @lillymunster This is from Fukushima-Diary posted article. ICRP is supported by variety of countries of nuclear mafia.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission USA: 250,000 USD

Commission of the European Communities : 130,455 USD

Department of Nuclear Safety Germany : 115,021 USD

Japan Atomic Energy Agency : 45,000 USD

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission : 40,000 USD

    etc..

    Total : 617,168 USD

  • @Ian the radiation rising from 0.09 µSv/h to 2.6 µSv/hr when the castor passes by, is indeed frightening. i wonder why it is not possible to block it off completely. is it that they can't or they don't want ?
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:41:41 AM

  • @Edano You would think that would be air tight sealed! Sounds like a leak.
    by MaryW 12/31/2011 2:42:45 AM

  • @MaryW no. it is gamma radiation. not a leak.

  • by lillymunster 12/31/2011 2:48:20 AM

  • @Edano , perhaps the lids are not sealed tight enough. If you walked around the rail car with a detector, you could locate the source.
    by Peter 12/31/2011 2:49:26 AM

  • but probably they are constructed that they just meet the safety requirements, and no inch thicker.

  • @Edano So any and all transportation of nuclear product must also emit gamma radiation. I was remembering the nuke transportation truck's accident on the highway going through Memphis TN not too long back
    by MaryW 12/31/2011 2:50:52 AM

  • @Peter i really hope it's not a leak with radioactive particles. i think it is just gamma rays.
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:50:55 AM

  • @MaryW as long as they are moving, the damage to individuals is low. but in case of an accident it is more critical.
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:52:59 AM

  • @you , sure, I did not mean liquid leaking. I meant something like pinholes or small gaps through which radiation can pass. Could also be that seals loosen up when the train rolls.
    by Peter 12/31/2011 2:53:04 AM

  • yea there may be weak spots.
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:54:22 AM

  • when my xray room was constructed i insisted on lead walls and i even made the workers cover the screw heads with lead. and the keyhole had to be covered as well. :) they were annoyed.
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:56:19 AM

  • IIRC casks used in the US that they plop outside in their parking lot emit a constant level of radiation along with heat. I think the permissible level was cited in some of the North Anna reporting
    by lillymunster 12/31/2011 2:56:44 AM

  • @Edano , actually, maybe helpful to find out whether the cars are checked during stops on transport. People must have seen guys with detectors walking around the train. There must also be radiation detectors mounted on the cars I suppose.
    by Peter 12/31/2011 2:58:10 AM

  • but i always get a compliment from the xray inspector. :)
    by Edano 12/31/2011 2:58:37 AM

  • @Peter they are checked regularly, as far as i have read.
    by Edano 12/31/2011 3:00:02 AM
