  • @Peter That is what I found gives at least some results.
    @Ian supposedly quarterly is normal
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:01:40 AM

  • @lillymunster , I have not found out yet how to export the results into a spreadsheet. The graphing option only seems to permit plots of annual data, which I find pretty useless for our purposes.
    by Peter 1/10/2012 2:05:03 AM

  • @Peter I didn't see an export feature. Maybe there is a way to cut and paste the inline list?
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:07:08 AM

  • I was able to pull up air box filter testing for OR for all of 2011, there are test dates all the way to August. So maybe we are looking at computer glitches instead of no data?? I was able to get the result to drop into a google spreadsheet also
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:10:48 AM

  • Try this link to see the box air filter data for the Oregon station for 2010-2011 docs.google.com
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:17:30 AM

  • The same search but looking at cesium-137 rather than "gross beta" on the OR air filter station gets "0" results. So someone did gross beta but there is no data for actual isotopes
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:21:45 AM

  • Very interesting. I ran the same query on Dutch Harbor Alaska - gross beta 2010-2011 air filter monitoring and there are only results for the emergency period Mar-June
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:24:07 AM

  • @Lilly, not wanting to add to the whole conspiracy part of the readings, but our readings in Oregon have been pretty low. My own geiger readings are still averaging .08 uSv/hr - .13 uSv/hr. Some folks think the low readings are still available but the higher readings go missing.
    by Lurking 1/10/2012 2:24:27 AM

  • @lillymunster, if only I could copy that data, I could plot 2011. Just eyeballing the data no post-Fuku rise is obvious. I can select the data, but can copy it, at least on this computer.
@Peter, if that search engine you point to works, it implies one can get graphs going back to 1978! Yet I've not seen pre-Fuku EPA graphs that I recall.
    by Ian 1/10/2012 2:25:03 AM

  • Dutch harbor output docs.google.com
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:26:06 AM

  • @Ian are you speaking of the output like I just posted or a different type? Oddly, if you put in the right combination in the simple query sometimes you get results and lots of them, others no luck. It seems like they were maybe just testing gross beta on air filters, if nothing high shows up they don't bother with a spectrum test of isotopes?
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:28:27 AM

  • @Lurking, one thing I'd like to see is the rate of RadNet flat lines on graphs pre-Fuku for that reason, that some people are saying the flat lines are where significant data has been omitted. But if this isn't unusual in prior years, it's not really conspicuous.
    by Ian 1/10/2012 2:28:47 AM

  • @Ian this is a problem, I can't find a way to make those same nice graphs we get for current monitoring, for previous years. Makes comparison really hard.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:29:50 AM

  • I did find some actual isotope testing on Dutch Harbor. This figures since there were spikes during the time they bothered to do air filter tests. Of course they are March only to go with the emergency testing only.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:30:49 AM

  • @lillymunster, what I mean is in docs.google.com I can select column F with the radioactivity measures, but I can't copy them.

  • Dutch Harbor AK iodine 131 by air filter 2010 to 2011 docs.google.com
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:33:05 AM

  • @Ian Maybe you need edit rights to copy? I set it to public on web but that might make it un-copy-able
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:33:37 AM

  • @Ian, seems to be the million dollar question, eh? I agree if data gaps existed pre Fukushima then it would be normal to see them after. The Corvallis station seems pretty steady. The university there has a Nuclear department and perhaps that is why?
    by Lurking 1/10/2012 2:34:05 AM

  • @lillymunster, the Dutch harbor output only goes back to 3/19, not Jan 1. And it starts high, the 19 is when Fuku would have been blowing into town. Has the EPA withheld the pre-Fuku I wonder.
    by Ian 1/10/2012 2:34:19 AM

  • @Ian ding-ding-ding! Yes, They only started air monitoring in Dutch Harbor after Fuku blew up even though it is listed as a air filter monitoring station.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:35:55 AM

  • some thoughts on radnet data crunching: They often 'recalibrate' their equipment, and that can cause a big shift in the graph. To get a true picture, you would need to correlate rain/snow/fog events to see radiation spikes. Also, sun spot (rather, coronal mass ejections) can cause spikes. And spikes would be a misnomer. It would reflect in a rather small rise. Looking at the Corvallis post, I notice a somewhat significant rise in August, 2011.
    by M.I.A. 1/10/2012 2:35:57 AM

  • @M.I.A. I think the first step if we find any anomaly we can't answer is to contact RadNet's lab office and ask if they had an issue with equipment or had to reset something before we fully assume something is increasing with fallout?

    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:37:51 AM

  • @Ian @Peter - I added both of you as editors on the document samples of Radnet readings. Please use the link in the sent emails to access them. Let me know if you can manipulate the data that way to grab it etc.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:38:41 AM

  • @lillymunster I've sent at least 4 emails that I can recall in the last year to my regional P.O.C. and have never recieved an answer. :(((
    by M.I.A. 1/10/2012 2:38:55 AM

  • @lillymunster, though the Dutch-Harbor output file is named in a pattern just like the Portland, Oregon data file that does go back to the last week of 2010: DutchHarborAK_Airfilter_grossbeta_2010_to_2011

  • www.naturalnews.com one article I ran into about the radnet
    by dean 1/10/2012 2:41:02 AM

  • Nuclear commission says Point Lepreau leaks 'unsettling'
Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission head concerned by recent incidents at plant. Jan 09.2012. The head of Canada's Nuclear Safety Commission says two recent incidents at New Brunswick's Point Lepreau nuclear generating station are "unsettling."

On Dec. 13, there was a radioactive spill. Up to six litres of heavy water splashed to the floor, forcing an evacuation of the reactor building and halt of operations.

Then, on Dec. 14, NB Power issued a news release, admitting there had been another type of spill three weeks earlier. About 23 barrels of water laced with the toxic chemical hydrazine was released into the Bay of Fundy.

Both incidents occurred as part of preparations for restarting the plant, which has been undergoing refurbishments for nearly four years. www.cbc.ca

  • Heya, Shadow!
    by M.I.A. 1/10/2012 2:43:03 AM

  • @Ian Yes - I put in date range 2010-2011 for Dutch Harbor and it only puts out that small set of data as if they only gather filters during fuku's worse. Oregon site appears to have been doing periodic air filters all along.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:43:05 AM

  • @MIA doing well on recovery,,, going to P therapy and gaining strength.. ty for asking
    by dean 1/10/2012 2:43:14 AM

  • Here's an archive of pre-Fuku RadNet datasets: www.epa.gov
    by Ian 1/10/2012 2:44:07 AM

  • I think the best data you'd get from universities, private companies that deal in erad monitoring equip. and, uh, nuclear power plants themselves. They do the most sensitive monitoring, but I sorta doubt they'd share it
    by M.I.A. 1/10/2012 2:45:37 AM

  • @dean The article hits the things we found a few months ago about Radnet's maintenance. Seems like nothing has improved.

I did eventually get in contact with someone at EPA but they were someone in website maintenance and My questions were forwarded and never answered.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:46:11 AM

  • @M.I.A. They share it with the NRC, but not us schmoes.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:46:33 AM

  • xactly, lilly
    by M.I.A. 1/10/2012 2:46:57 AM

  • @Ian ERD only goes to 2009 and is supposed to be currently still happening and IIRC was part of the RadNet contract. So if I am correct the contractor isn't doing this since they took the contract. Man this all really needs to be sent to our congresscritters. I wonder if any of them are aware what a mess some of this is.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 2:48:34 AM

  • I just found where the EPA deployed some units to add to what they had there,,,,also, it's good to look at data from measurements of the air-filter and cartridge of the units to see what isotopes have accumulated on the filter medium
    by dean 1/10/2012 2:54:05 AM

  • www.epa.gov maybe a lead
    by dean 1/10/2012 2:56:27 AM

  • @dean Only some did isotope tests. Many did gross beta and went no further.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 3:00:45 AM

  • oops.. duh.. I thought it was dutch harbor in alaska....my bad
    by dean 1/10/2012 3:00:49 AM

  • @dean It was Dutch Harbor, one we were looking at. It appears the entire station including the live monitor was only turned on during the Fuku emergenc y period. They list it as a permanent station. So either it isn't a permanent station or it has been offline until the disaster.
    by lillymunster 1/10/2012 3:02:31 AM

  • Dutch Harbor appears to be a temporary post - per this page: www.epa.gov
