So I woke up,, checked the board to make sure it was open and saw the first couple of posts.. Something is up but what? Now I really wonder what the fire truck incident at Daiichi was on the 5th=6th
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 1:59:54 PM

epicenter was in the sea right between daiichi and daini
by Edano 1/7/2012 2:00:20 PM

@Edano ok so it wasn't literally under the plant.. That is good, being shallow I wondered if something bad had happened. Still bad as they don't need more shaking.
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 2:01:22 PM

@lillymunster no, not really bad, just a slight shaker :)
by Edano 1/7/2012 2:02:12 PM

TEPPY cam is working. They have the big spot light shining at the camera.
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 2:03:23 PM

@Pedro Jesus ah, i didn't know the original language words.

Govt to limit life of nuclear reactors to 40 yearsThe Japanese government wants to pass a new law that limits the life of nuclear reactors to 40 years.
Nuclear crisis minister Goshi Hosono on Friday announced a review of nuclear safety regulations following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. The proposed 40-year limit is included in new draft regulations on nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel material.
According to the draft, the government will not allow reactors to operate for more than 40 years, but may grant extensions on request.
Extensions will be subject to government checks on the obsolescence of the facility, and the plant operator's capacity to provide appropriate maintenance.
This is the first time for the government to try to regulate the lifespan of nuclear plants.
Hosono said the government will also revise safety standards against earthquakes, tsunami and other disasters with new knowledge and technology in protective measures and require power companies to comply with new standards.
The government will submit the legislation to the ordinary session of the Diet by the end of this month at the earliest, ahead of the planned launch of a new nuclear safety agency in April.

this is nothing but hot air.
by Edano 1/7/2012 2:07:28 PM

it's a joke.
by Edano 1/7/2012 2:11:26 PM

@Pedro Jesus It sounds like the animal rescue declaration. The official announcement sounds good. The details were not. They restricted it so bad it was almost meaningless and now the prefecture is trying to do something without the national govt. I am guessing the vagueness means it is BS, smoke and mirrors.
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 2:11:39 PM

The illusion of Japan's politicians is falling apart. I see news articles and people questioning not just that the entire body is inept but that they are all old men who are out of touch with the world and what is going on around them.

@UKVal interesting. I am guessing the flood light that is now on means they may be still running inspections looking for problems.

March (late) radiation levels around the prefecture

I found this statement interesting while researching deficiencies at commercial nuclear plants in USA.........."The agency takes full credit for the grace of God," said George Mulley, who wrote several scathing reports about lax fire enforcement while chief investigator at the NRC's Office of Inspector General......
by dean 1/7/2012 2:44:54 PM

@dean wow!
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 2:45:35 PM

@LILLY, I'd sure like to somehow see a total list of the deficiencies, violation notifications, price/anderson act items, etc at commercial plants and also the corrective actions, due dates and/or agreements with NRC on why they are put off
by dean 1/7/2012 2:47:32 PM

rt.com Wild monkeys to measure Fukushima radiation.
Radiation levels in the woods near the Fukushima nuclear power plant in the aftermath of the nuclear disaster is now going to be measured with the help of the primates.
Researchers from Fukushima University have designed special collars for the monkeys which will feed information to scientists.
Each of the collars contains a small radiation survey meter and a GPS transmitter and can be unclipped by remote control, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported on Saturday.
by dean 1/7/2012 2:54:26 PM

@dean It would be good to see all of that in one place. The only data on anything I see is the NRC letters and official documents. I don't know if they list all of them with a heading of the issue anywhere. I don't like how you have to muck through the entire letter to find out the issue or decision. They never put a heading on them.
by lillymunster 1/7/2012 2:56:20 PM

@lilly, it's a big database I'm sure, and, they shy away from making it public much due to perceived concerns over getting too much information out that terrorists may potentially see

time to head out for first gym workout, getting back in cycling shape... will return..
by dean 1/7/2012 3:07:51 PM

@dean that is good to hear! If you think of some way we can access a more useful set of NRC data let me know. Making something like that would really wake people up and also give us a good way to monitor things.
