@dean It looks like a burn off flame to me. They have had ongoing hydrogen issues at unit 2. They injected nitrogen and did some venting previously. We saw what looked like this flame on TBS one night but it was blurry due to the distance and weather than night.

Hi shadow!
by lillymunster 1/26/2012 2:35:56 AM

@ Shadow, I went back in this week after he said it was ok to go through with the knee surgery,,, he does have some concerns over me getting weak and as I become more active he wants me to check it and if I have the same thing then he probably will to the angiogram to be safe
by dean 1/26/2012 2:36:35 AM

@lilly.. the bright whitish lite seems like a flood light that turns on automatically... the other burning looking stuff seems like a fire as it's burning more orange colored. I'm thinking if there were sort of hydrogen there it wouldn't just flame but probably explode

@dean If they are pushing it out through a pipe with a burner like they do for methane? It looks similar to that.

pic of waste gas burner www.grothcorp.com

great to hear @ shadow
by dean 1/26/2012 2:44:26 AM

@lilly.. most of those waste burners are burning methane I believe, the land refuge area here uses the methane to power a small power plant . .
by dean 1/26/2012 2:45:22 AM

@lilly.. please check gmail
by dean 1/26/2012 2:47:44 AM

@peter.. hi
by dean 1/26/2012 3:06:46 AM

There were some people worried whatever was going on was an uncontrolled fire. It seemed controlled at least to me it did.

@lilly and bo.. I'm affraid that the best thing India and China will learn from past nuclear experience is to keep things secret, say every thing is running smoothly and show how happy the people are to have power finally
by dean 1/26/2012 4:12:46 AM

@lilly... I had read that 83% of the power plants in Japan were shut down.. how are they surviving? @ bo
by dean 1/26/2012 4:13:21 AM

@dean 93% and so far just fine. No blackouts. I don't hear people talking lots about power saving right now so I don't know if it has become common or if things are eased up a bit ? there were some articles and posts about staying warm at the beginning of winter.

This is all that is still running after Shimane closes on the 27th. Out of 54 reactors
Kansai Electric – Takahama No.3, 870 MW – Planned maintenance from February 20, 2012
Tokyo Electric – Kashiwazaki-Kariwa No.6, 1,356 MW – Planned maintenance from March 10, 2012
Hokkaido Electric – Tomari No.3, 912 MW - Planned maintenance from April-May 2012
by lillymunster 1/26/2012 4:16:45 AM

@dean no one here is even talking about it. No one seems to have noticed. It is a news story here, just like there, but there is no measurable effect. Of course many Japanese homes are heated with gas, but still many are heated with electricity.
