  • @dean Just browsing around trying to catch up.
    by Shadow 1/26/2012 4:26:55 AM

  • @Shadow I hadn't seen this before but I think he is a bit off on some of the images and what he thinks is going on? The towers, he shows one side in one image and then the foot of another in the other. I don't know if all 4 feet normally sat with the big foot exposed. They did dump a bunch of dirt at the end of 4 and they bulldozed and scraped off there also and the lead plates have been there for a long while. There was a probable fissure at the end of 4. Where they started dumping dirt and plates first was about where a fissure would be if it matched the one at unit 1 and ran in a straight line. There were some very hot debris items in that area right after the blasts. We could see them on the heat images. I will see if I can dig up those heat images tomorrow. They may add to the picture of what has been going on there.

    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 12:48:10 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus I heard most of it yesterday, they had it on a rebroadcast on public radio. The energy comments are interesting. One thing I found on natural gas is that it is being exported at large rates out of the US while we are increasing our dependence. I want to know if it is going to countries that actually need it or if it is being sold off because private companies want a profit on it right now rather than leaving it until it is needed. With so many finite resources we really need to look at not wasting them.

As for Obama not quietly allowing the nuclear power industry to continue as usual, I will be looking at his 2012 campaign contributions. IIRC two of his staff were tied to the nuclear industry and at least one of them is no longer there.

  • This says Axelrod left the Administration but may be working on his 2012 campaign so I don't know how much influence he will have on keeping the nuke industry influence in the campaign. en.wikipedia.org
    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 12:59:35 PM

  • @lillymunster about the natural gas i know that big parts of the caribbean states depend on the US gas imports. they have no alternative and i can imagine that the supply is wanted for political reasons (to keep them dependent).

    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 1:07:30 PM

  • @Edano right, like I said, sending it where it is needed makes sense. There was a US news story talking about huge exports and it made me wonder if the US govt. monitors this to see where and why it is going.

    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 1:12:10 PM

  • i think gas is not only a natural energy source, it also has a strong political and diplomatic component - we can see that in europe with the russian gas.
    by Edano 1/26/2012 1:14:39 PM

  • the russians influence ukrainian and belarussian politics with it. and to a certain degree german politics as well :)

  • tho we have an immense storage capacity filled.
    by Edano 1/26/2012 1:18:04 PM

  • @Edano I remember years ago the Russians(?) cut off the natural gas pipeline in the winter to part of Europe.
    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 1:19:50 PM

  • @lillymunster yes they did. they wanted to force ukraine to pay higher rates (they had a special very cheap contract at that time).
    by Edano 1/26/2012 1:30:00 PM

  • that is why we have just now constructed a direct, independent pipeline from russia to germany (with the help of ex chancellor g. schroeder) beneath the baltic sea. the former supply was only thru the ukrainian pipeline. so there is a huge diplomatic impact.
    by Edano 1/26/2012 1:33:08 PM

  • @lillymunster Regarding natural gas in the USA, Obama's administration's aim is to increase production in order to maintain their relative energetic independence while still meeting exports agreements. The nuclear agenda was kept in the dark for now but I'm not seeing any interest, from this administration, in investing more in nuclear energy. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper. In India, solar photovoltaic power plants are producing cheaper energy than diesel run thermal plants, at the moment, to give an example.

@Edano There is an element of political pressure inherent to energy sources exports. Energy is fundamental to any modern society and can, therefore, be used as a means of control by the providers over those who rely on them. There is going to be an interesting change of fate regarding middle east oil in the coming years, as China, Japan, Russia, Brasil, India and most middle east countries start trading oil with the Chinese Yuan and an upcoming united currency instead of the US dollar. The end of the petrodollar is looming.
by Pedro Jesus 1/26/2012 1:43:54 PM

  • @lillymunster I might be wrong, but Obama's emphasis on "clean and cheap" energy seems to cast some shadows over the future of US nuclear energy sector on the long term.

  • greetings to all
    by dean 1/26/2012 1:47:20 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus I find Obama's comments a bit hard to read between the lines. Earlier he sort of lumped nuclear power in with "clean" energy. To try to do that now post Fukushima would be a bad idea. So if it truly means a policy change? Maybe? He seems to be backing Jaczko's actions in the NRC. So maybe Entergy etc. won't give him campaign money this time?

  • Happy tweets:
Questions and rumors have a very big topic in Unit 4. Toka Toka explosion destroyed .... Do you want to collapse? It's not calculated by the oiler is also being asked What is the strength, does not know by looking. I do not know whether to believe that there is only safe to come Toka M9. Tell me if anyone know the exact number surely fall
One more: The oiler is only the fact I work up to the top floor of the workers wonder anyone, including us oiler every day that I reinforced to calculate intensity Sucha ° over security ゙ Nekon in Japan I also said Mr. Sunny do not know.
2 more: I work where I work every day that employee is a scary time we have oiler earthquake. We oiler on the ground is not only believe. The first thing to die and be destroyed by exploding a worker is not our oiler.
    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 2:08:12 PM

  • @ Nohohon_Papa work in the vicinity of Unit 1 to 3 would be the most exposure. Among these groups are responsible for Unit 3 would be the equivalent exposure. Daily limit, I think most companies 3mSv. Other places are relatively low.
I like to consider towns and settlements outside the town as towns Okuma Futaba. Okuma also oiler fellow townie, but I'm all in chorus many "Hey all 帰Ritee not go home but" What I said. March, April oiler too high a dose too there is a review of caution zone criteria is not currently understood sense.
One more: I feel you tweeted earlier, the control zone prescribed by law 1.3mSv I think it was a three-month cumulative dose. But I think about 0.6μSv / h per hour as equivalent to a residential area .... (Sorry miscalculation Dattara) Incidentally, I have gotta primary campus set a more controlled area 2.6μSv / h.
Two more: it is said, I supposed most of the relevant district. Management handbook that obtain radiation controlled area, portable external dose measurement, management training course in radiation, medical ionizing examination of the WBC, no-go under 18 (not working), Nan's pregnancy should be off limits, etc. What country do that has nothing to do But that is going to say?

  • Three more: 見Renakatta well ... I like ... I recovered it removes the asphalt. View topic in slow time. We feel it is a field-oiler, mechanical piping from the group is now a large construction group definitely felt. It's obvious I'm doing some work on mechanical piping in the building also groups.

  • But wait if (^ O ^) cry into work today I went cold and the scene has idled (>_<) topic in the sun is out but there was no problem in most patrol yesterday morning earthquake was his disciples. What is it I increased the amount of radioactive material released in the field, Just because it had workers out of the No. 2 I think not.
    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 2:15:08 PM

  • I am pushing to send my inputs to supporters of a nuclear renaissance. Renaissance to me means tackling the immense issue of nuclear waste first with measurable milestones that must be met. In the interim I would let the GEN 4 and GEN 4+ designs be reviewed but I would not issue permission to construct until the milestones of nuclear waste were at the point where the PUBLIC could see the track to nuclear energy was moving at the right pace. I would demand a list of all deficiencies at every nuclear plant and then work that list to develop a national nuclear maintenance plan which includes and prioritizes all nuclear issues within this country. In addition I would tackle the issue of SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL CYCLE and insist that no new reactors would be built until the issue of the current fuel storage is corrected.

  • very good reads @lilly
    by dean 1/26/2012 2:18:20 PM

  • @dean currently it seems like the NRC is deferring to profit margin issues with the power companies frequently. The Fukushima safety changes so far are about the only issue where they seem to not but they have yet to actually start implementing. I worry NEI etc. will water things down or get them delayed forever so they don't have to pay.
    by lillymunster 1/26/2012 2:21:49 PM

  • @lilly the one part of the presidents speech where he mentioned that he wants the fracking companies to identify the chemicals they use... that upsets me because that shows that the so called federal and state regulators missed it in their review of various departments within the state and federal permit departments. I wonder if, prior to fracking, and Environmental Impact Assessment was completed with public and scientifiec inputs
    by dean 1/26/2012 2:22:24 PM

  • @lilly.. that sounds like a good use of an executive order to me
    by dean 1/26/2012 2:23:30 PM

  • @lillymunster I don't think there is much to read between the lines of Obama's speech. He was very clear, very forthcoming in his message. What one can try and guess is why he didn't address certain issues, such as foreign policy towards North Korea (maybe it is not considered an issue any longer), and China regarding Tibet, and the nuclear power agenda. We were left in the dark regarding these.
