I base my dumping question on the facts that water seems to be pumped into the spent fuel pools and they still keep showing that it isn't filling up, the temps there seem to be stable and aren't rising, and the fact that they found puddle in the turbine buildings. If they are "Flushing" out the sea water they are putting in to flush out any debris that has fallen in the pools so it will not start a reaction, it would most likely have to go to the turbine building, where all the piping is. I would bet that there is an underground drain pipe that goes out into the ocean below from the facility. That would also account for the fact that they are finding radioactivity in the ocean 19km away. Instead of venting it into the air, they are venting it into the ocean hoping that is will disburse.

Protection and safety is critical. When, we are in the room assisting a patient, we wore lead aprons. It depends on the disease process. I made a statement on Reuters and some Dr. (?) countered me, but I'll stand by it (and, every radiologist in the world will concur). The diagnostic benefit outweighs the risk. The exposure is really minimal. Don't buy into the panic. Your life or the life of your loved ones could depend on it.

I second the opinion that the steam would be a negligible amount, even for local weather affectation. I too have a weather question though. Is it not true that much of the precipitation that falls is derived from evaporated seawater? Something to think about.

@wtm I want to point to the steam we are talking about. It may be fall-out from that. Because all that water they are putting in there will most likely be turning in to steam instead of them flushing it out. (Its over the boiling point so...)

Also, the large amounts of pollen in the region being carried around by winds could be a source of contamination.

@Meretisa Here is an amazing video (or set of pictures) of how volcano ash can create lightening. Enough particles collide- those particle create static charge- enough static charge needs to be released somehow and it's in the form of lightening coming from the ash clouds. @Sin The minerals stay behind though, so it should be the same as distilled water. But wind could blew salty spray onto land for some distance.

@Sinthia Domina Indeed, seawater is one way that moisture gets into the atmosphere but as evaporation occurs huge amounts of radiation are loss in the process if not all radiation. I'm not an expert on radiation being impacted by water but I do know that the various evaporation, deposition, condensation, and sublimation actions involve some amount of loss of pollutants. That's why if you're in a survival situation and you need to drink something you can literally pee into a cup, cover it with some sort of plastic, put it in the sun, and you'll have fresh water condensation on the bottom of the plastic. lol, odd comparison but it works

I think something shady is going on at night...The webcam is pitch black at night- I would expect to see at least a tiny speck of artificial light during that time if there are people doing work then. Also- dawn/early morning= when I can count on seeing smoke and steam. It all seems to get clear as the day progresses.
