I wonder how they got water from unit 4 spent fuel pool. We now know it had at least 400 milliliters.

@edano: this cylinder seem to be a building; it can be seen on pics of the plant before the quake, the same look as the one near #2 reactor

something heavy came down next to #3 you can see it in the video. something must be there.

@edano: there is an evidence: pics show a cylinder at the exact same place before the quake. It does not seem to me the axis is wrong. Building at this corner and near the north wall are badly damaged; given this and the look of #3 building debris, I think the explosion occured near the north-west building corner: everything colapsed here and even look like having melted...

@scilla blimey that is unbelievable do we take it there is so much rubble on that fuel that they cannot properly view it!! can you make sure @Nancy sees your english.kyodonews.jp link as there are some pics she may nnot have seen

@Jo Lindien : i have not seen a before picture. can you post one ? the other reactors do not have a round thing at this point.

@edano, it is a round storage tank of some sort. I found other angles and a pre-damage photo. It could be the wonky camera angle giving the perception the building and tank are tipped in opposite directions or the tank could have sank or been pushed down on one side. Given the force of the blast on 3 anything is worth exploring. I think if they are ever able to get in and do forensics on #3 they are going to find some extreme things.

@edano: on this pic I can only see a perspective effect; just looked at the high-res version and it seems to me to have the same alignment that the 2 buildings just near; seems the same on pic from the other sides. Beware: don't take the top as a reference, it seems not flat anymore. The picture I'pics\ve got from the plant before the quake is called waterog.jpg

Today, in order to confirm the conditions of the fuels stored in the
spent fuel pool of Unit 4, we sampled the water in the spent fuel pool.
We will be conducting nuclide analysis on these samples.

@edano It could have been melted or compressed also if it is off level. My dad used to be an insurance exec and was a claims adjuster before that. Bizarre things like that in refinery and tank farm fires/explosions.

@Scilla I have absolutely no clue what that is. It seems to be at the end of reactor 1 and I don't think we have many ground level images. Will see if I have something of that area. It almost looks like a rolled up section of corrugated metal but don't think it was used here and almost too large to be.
