@Jim Carver Wiki says 1969 it started. Will put the PDF's in our FAQ wiki so they are available. I will make sure to put the caveat that this is the same generation but at a different facility. I think this is what fitter has been looking for.

@Nancy My bad...not sure why they have 1991 as the original license date for Oyster Creek. Here's the correct data: "Oyster Creek is a single unit 619 MWe boiling water reactor power plant which first came online on December 1, 1969; it is the oldest operating nuclear power plant in the United States. Located 50 miles east of Philadelphia and 75 miles south of New York City,[4] the plant gets its cooling water from Barnegat Bay, a brackish estuary that empties into the Atlantic Ocean through the Barnegat Inlet." en.wikipedia.org

@radioguy no dimensions on 4, I have been using the rough length of #1 (the long side) as my rough length of 4. But as we were discussing earlier today the lower below grade is square so that long measure might be at least in the ballpark.

@Sinthia Domina still reading the article. It smells of insider trading. Float a rumor tepco is going belly up and going to be taken over by the govt. see the stocks drop as people flee the investment. Snatch it all up and make a HUGE profit at some point later. I noticed the take over talk has evolved into govt throwing money at things instead of taking over now. This whole thing really stinks. Would TEPCO execs pull something like this to make a buck for themselves?

Radiochemistry professor lends expertise to Japan nuclear crisis Default Thumbnail April 18, 2011 by Nolan Lister UNLV faculty member enlisted to consult for General Electric in wake of Fukushima plant disaster. A UNLV chemistry professor was called on by General Electric to act as a consultant on the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, Japan.The nuclear power plant suffered structural damage on March 11, under the force of a tsunami that resulted from an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale. General Electric, designer of the plant, sought help from Ken Czerwinski, a professor in UNLV’s radiochemistry program.“The skills set that we teach and study within our program is a unique area of research, and I’ve worked with people at General Electric before,” Czerwinski said. “They needed a radiochemist who could help them understand the chemistry of the elements in question, their fuel cycles and how it may change.”Czerwinski’s program is comprised of professors from the chemistry and health physics programs and focuses on understanding the chemistry of elements only available as radioactive isotopes.“This is a unique program,” Czerwinski said. “There are not many universities that have the capabilities that we have.”After the tsunami struck, destroying four of the six reactors at the site, nuclear fuel was exposed to air at high temperatures due to a malfunction in the cooling tanks. Power plant workers were forced to manually cool the spent fuel by dumping seawater on it. This left the nuclear material in an unpredictable state.Enter Czerwinski.“[General Electric] wanted to gather a cadre of people with the right skill sets together,” he said. “For instance, one of the things we can estimate how it’s going to behave, if you clean it up, will it fall apart? Is it going to be brittle? Is it something that you can maneuver easily without spreading a lot of activity around?”The disaster was originally rated a “five” on the International Nuclear Event Scale, but it was increased to a “seven” on April 12 — the same level as the disaster in Chernobyl 25 years ago. “The issue, right now is coming up with preliminary plans, trying to understand what to expect and then probably start doing more research,” Czerwinski said. “This is fundamentally what we want to do with the radiochemistry program.” The program has garnered some publicity after its efforts with General Electric. Czerwinski said he hopes that the community will take notice of the university’s efforts and recognize the importance of higher education in the state of Nevada.“The radiochemistry program and the university itself has been able to show what has been developed here, how it’s actually been able to inform and contribute,” he said. “[We] want to show value added to the public, and I hope this is an example of how the university helps out the community.” unlvrebelyell.com

@Nancy That is one freaking INSANELY dangerous gamble.
@Nancy The persons or entity that made the purchase wants to remain anonymous, and structured it in away to get away with it. I think Japan can't let TEPCO fail, so it's most likely some insider trading that has info...or maybe it is something more ominous, I think its a red flag of some sort, but hard to tell what at this point.

@radioguy after seeing the crazy things in the commodities markets, like the guy in the UK trying to buy up all the chocolate, nothing surprises me. Someone in the group used to be a trader, can't remember who though. They might have an idea what is up with this.
