  • @Edano: as I remember, this layout is 41.6 m large. I think the building matches BWR-3, ie #1 reactor, then building size (but not drywell / RPV) has to be scaled up to match BWR-4, ie #2, #3, #4 & #5 reactors, isn't it ?

  • @elainekirk: according to G.E. data, BWR-3 & BWR-4 are mostly the same design. The only documented difference is the core density, ie the layout inside the reactor. No other design change.

    Reactor vessel cap 5050mm = 5.05 metres - about 16.5 feet across
    Well = 12.5 meters - 37.5 feet across
    Building long = 41500mm = 41.5 metres - 124.50 feet

  • @elainekirk: Yes, I finally came to the same conclusion after studying G.E. design data: the basement is square while the upper part of the building is not. The good thing is that it's easy to locate the containment vessel: it is located at the exact center of the square basement, which is logical as the torus is round and just fits into the building.

  • The well is offset of the centerline but closer to the middle than the outer walls. The crane landmark overlays I am working on line up with that also.

  • @Nancy: yes, #2, #3, #4 & #5 are wider (still square, though, #6 is BWR-5, completely different design); It seems to me the dimensions are 41.6m x 41.6m for #1, about 48m x 48m for #2, #3, #4;
    or is 41.6 for #2, #3, #4 ?

  • @Jocelyn Mayer i had a post that got held up in mods earlier, missed nancy... but the 1997 procedure for the "shroud replacement" gives very detailed procedures on the "decontaimentain" of reactor durinng "maintanice" I am sure its imporved since then but quite informative... i believe it states that the steam dryer section was stored in "spent pool etc" .. nklistener had posted the reports last week....

  • i don't know everyday the same discussion. the base of the buildings is a square. the roof is not. but still the containment is centered (to the base). of cousrse it is centered, because it is round, the torus stretching nearly to the walls.

  • @Edano there are some minor differences where the well then appears on the work floor based on the layout and width of the upper building around it. Like the fact that 1 is narrower.

  • @Nancy: I measured, more than once, #1 basement is exactly square. The blueprint says it's 41.558 m x 41.56 m large; OK, there's a 2 millimeters difference...
