  • gal is 1 cm per sec-squared. So 980 gal = 1 G acceleration.

  • @Nancy : have you ever taken a look to the blueprint plus my drawing down here ? it is a square and lots of circles that exactly fit the square. and there is a lower part of the building.

    I was explicitly talking about the basement; this because G.E. design gives main reactor components location from the basement square area: reactor, drywell and torus are centered, refering to the basement, which makes them easier to locate...

  • So yes, it is the elevation of 1. One is narrower (above ground) than the other buildings so the location of the well vs. outside walls and other things is a bit different. Most of the speculation has been on 3 and 4 to try to find things and 1 is slightly diff in design.

  • Has anyone seen an explanation of the reactor parameters when they provide both (A) and (B) readings, what the difference is? I'm trying to understand, for instance how #2 has the really low (A) suppression well radiation reading, with (B) much higher, same for water level in the reactor -- -1500mm vs. -2100mm.

  • Curious due to the wide disparity in the numbers. 0.58 vs 101 Sv/hr, and -1500 vs -2100 mm both seem pretty large deltas.

  • That's about what I remembered, design acceleration was 0.32 m/s2 . GEJE (Great East Japan Earthquake) was a few times larger. I'll need that figure, so still have to find that.

  • TEPCO published readings a couple weeks back, showing the measured accelerations vs. the design accelerations. The different reactors experienced different accelerations, and also turned out to have different design points.

    "Based on a conservative bounding analysis, this report concludes that there is a potential for recriticality in BWRs if core reflood occurs after control blade melting has begun but prior to significant fuel rod melting. However, a recriticality event will most likely not generate a pressure pulse significant enough to fail the vessel. Instead, a quasi-steady power level would result and the containment pressure and temperature would increase until the containment failure pressure is reached, unless actions are taken to terminate the event…"

  • @Edano: Since 2000, the year with the highest count of 6+ earth quakes was 2007 with 178 quakes.
    As of 2011.04.18 there were so far 109 6+ quakes which would interpolate to 368 6+ quakes for 2011.

  • canadian, I believe what your looking at are the THERMAL "FLUX' levels or intensities.. it.. #NEUTRONS/cm2-sec... thats flux level.. and they use the color coding to reference hi----low fluxes..

At the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, high levels of radiation have kept workers from approaching the buildings housing the first 3 reactors, which lost their cooling functions in the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.On Friday, the highest radiation level measured outside the double-entry doors of the Number 1 to 3 reactor buildings was 2 to 4 millisieverts per hour.Radiation levels measured between the double doors of those reactor buildings was 270 millisieverts in the Number One reactor, 12 in Number 2, and 10 in Number 3.The radiation level detected at the Number One reactor exceeds the national exposure limit of 250 millisieverts for nuclear contract workers.Tokyo Electric Power Company, TEPCO, has started using a remote-controlled robot inside the reactor buildings. www3.nhk.or.jp
