  • been in moderation since an hour, but i want to say, even if it too late now, i think it is the hot reactor vessel, but now the water has been vaporized that's why it seems hotter now than before. but possibly those tepco freaks may have forgotton some rods in the vessel. shit happens.

  • went back and double checked the heat image for today. If I used a shorter building width line to account for a perspective angle the heat still sits at the midline of the building.

  • I was just reading this article, and for some reason (duh) there is a high humidity level inside the #1 Reactor building. Also, I wonder if someone could tel me what they mean by the "air-locks".

  • @Nancy: given Mexico_lurker overlay pic, isn't the heat coming from the steam dryer separator ? May there be a "hole" in that area that would show the water in the building basement ? This water, coming from the boiling SFP, is likely to be hot, isn't it ?

  • @Sinthia Domina: there is water boiling in #1 building, which is not vented a lot (not like #3 & #4); then humidity level is likely to be high... There may even be rain in there, as steam would condenses on walls, roof, ... #2 is likely to be the same...

  • @xxx I know WHAT an air lock is, I do not know what section of the plant has an air-lock. I am assuming the room containing the reactor itself.

  • one comment.. I will attach a document which goes into mark 1 clear up to future reactor designs. in the document this is stated "several utilities and plant operators condidered suing GE in the late 1980's after the disclosure of internal company documents dating back to 1975 that suggested the containment vessel designs were either insufficiently tested or had flaws that could compromise safety. The key concern was that the containment structure was undersized and that a potential accident could overwhelm and rupture it. the BWR Mark I CONTAINMENTS in the USA have undergone a variety of modificaittions since these initial concerns were raised. Among these were changes to the doughnut-shaped torus pressure suppression pool. Steam being "quenched" from the primary vessel into the torus under high pressure would act as a rocket and could cause vessel displacement.... netfiles.uiuc.edu

  • @Jocelyn Mayer The top part looks identical that would lean towards the steam dryer being in the same spot as 3. Now trying to figure out of the object in the right corner could hold a RPV cap or not. Still trying to determine if CNIC's image of 4's work floor is accurate or not and just from a funky angle.

  • Robots detect high levels of radiation

    Remote-controlled robots have detected high levels of radiation inside the reactor buildings at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

    The plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, on Monday released radiation data and photos taken by the US-made robots. The company conducted the survey using the robots on Sunday and Monday. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • @Nancy that is the design flaw with the steam relief and it supposetly will tear apart the torus.... in the us they added a relief line fron the tourus to somewere.... do not know if japn did.... goes back to 90's

  • @Jocelyn Mayer @Nancy Some time back NKL istener had posted a article "rad control in the core shroud replacemnt Unit #2... it dates back to the late 90's and i am sure things have change in the procedures since then.... 1) do we know if "they were doing a shrould" re[acement on 4 and if so when they might have started.... if you can find this article and there is a second one that with the details ans weld procedures that are very informited.... if the were doing a shroud replace ment and depending on the stage they were in you have to go outside the box... they have to disconnect the piping system and they do quite a bit of temp changes to the reator during an outage.... these items have to come into the senerio as a variable if they were doing that work..... gotta run .... tornado issues to deal with...
